  1. Heh, I tried to "go to bat" for him when I sent you that message back on the 22nd, but apparently he wasn't serious on the first page or just didn't see this part of the thread yet....
  2. No one wants to discuss the team bat idea? Just curious, how many guys on the team have a softball bat they'll be able to bring to games and practices? I actually thought about buying a bat on my own this spring ... trying to find one like Fever's was before he left last year (taking my OPS with him, lol). I think it might be a tough sell to convince everyone on the team to put $10 towards a bat they might never use? But it would be nice for practices to be guaranteed to have one? What does everyone else thing?
  3. I've confirmed that Matt can't post. He's over here now and we're doing everything right, but we keep getting the "You have reached this page because Brewerfan.net Forum requires membership to either view or post" page. His account appears logged in fine, because the "Logged in as" specification at the top is correct. His account is validated, I checked that. Joe had the same issues, he had to spend three days clicking approval links, validation links, and logging in before he could finally post. Anyway, he's definitely in for softball and he'll keep trying to log in over the next few days, I guess. Whenever money is due or whenever he needs to specify his jersey, he'll be ready to respond. I'll respond for him if I have to.
  4. Verbatim, this could be my review of Wedding Crashers.
  5. The Staples stuff was boring, they could've done so much more with that. As has been typical with this season, there were way too many sentimental, quiet, unfunny scenes. And it seems like every episode these days has an office party in it, to me it comes across as uncreative. Still, there was some great stuff that we were quoting at the water cooler the next day, so I guess they must be doing something right. I liked Jim re-instating his feelings for Pam at the end. Gotta root for Jim.
  6. A regression from last week, but some good parts.
  7. FYI, both matt and joe had trouble posting after they created their accounts. They were both telling me that their attempts to post after logging in were taking them back to a registration/signup page. So either they were both doing the same thing wrong, or something might be awry with ezboard. This is why matt hasn't posted yet. He's trying to get it figured out.
  8. Put me down, Jamie. EDIT: I have one or two recruits: - I talked to my friend matt this morning and he wants to play. He's played softball the last four years for the Medical College intramural league and he's pretty good. He pitches very well, throws strikes and doesn't walk people. He played baseball in high school and college. He's a lifelong brewer fan, but I don't think he has an account here yet. - Another close friend of mine, Joe, signed up for a BF.net account a few days ago for the almost-sole purpose of joining the softball team. He played baseball in high school. Both good guys who would be fun to have on the team and probably help us get some W's. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. If you've been watching the show since the first season, Stanley shows his sales side all the time. Phyllis was a bit of a surprise for me ... never really knew what she did. Michael has showed flashes of sales brilliance since the very beginning, too. (Chili's episode in season 1 with Tim Meadows.)
  10. I've been hard on Season 3, labeling each episode as just somewhere between below-average and above-average. Tonight's episode was great++. Did anyone else call the "boobs" bit? When Michael stopped with that grin on his face I thought, "He's gonna make the computer say some funny one-word thing like 'boobs'". Classic.
  11. It's funny, you think that most of the board wants to trade him for a bag of balls, I read the same posts and feel like most of the board is happy keeping him and giving him another chance. Perspective, I guess.
  12. Someone explain to me how Sons of Sam Horn is any more legitimate than BF.net. I do not understand.
  13. Bubba Franks. Can we trim the fat Carroll-style with our "franchise player"?
  14. I'm guessing he actually did have two LFs listed in the original lineup and then edited it to correct it. I don't think the comment about two left fielders was motivated by an attitude that Hall is a left fielder and not a shortstop.
  15. If our 6-10 coming into 2006 was... Helling Hendrickson Eveland De La Rosa Jackson And -- with a Suppan or other SP signing -- our 6-10 going into 2007 is.... Villy Jackson Sarfate? Hendrickson Yo? ...I can't agree we'd be deeper in 2007. I'm super excited about Villanueva, but for a #6 innings eater, I like Helling's status coming into 2006 better. Hendrickson, we assumed, had to finally click in the Majors and bring his good stats with him, a pretty solid #7. Eveland had some solid big league experience from 2005, a perfectly fine #8. Some were just itching to give Jorge a shot at a start -- great stuff and maybe RP just wasn't a good fit -- not a bad option. Folks were saying Jackson was moments away from being a major league starter when he came over from Toronto ... not bad for the 5th-best emergency fill option. Conversely, even with the Crew signing an SP, we'd have someone mostly unproven as our #1 fill-in (but like I said, I'm excited about him). Our seventh man would be our tenth man from the year before. I can't really comment on Sarfate, but most are of the opinion that he should stick to RP as a Brewer. Then Hendrickson at number 9, someone that pretty much no one here wants getting the ball again. And a guy who would need to be rushed below that? It's really not a huge deal one way or another, I just couldn't understand the opinion that a Suppan signing made us deeper than (or far better than, as said) ... or even as good as ... how we looked entering 2006. Not with Hendrickson being proven worthless; Eveland gone; JDLR getting his chance, failing, and leaving town. Vargas plus a FA SP just washed Davis and Ohka. Then, to me, the rest isn't as deep. Different opinions, I guess.
  16. Hmm, I gotta disagree with that. I think even with a Suppan signing, our depth at SP is still worse than last year. Last year we came into the year with Sheets-Davis-Cappy-Ohka-Bush and a pretty solid 6th man in Helling, followed by Eveland, Hendrickson, De La Rosa, and Jackson. I'd say that a rotation of Sheets-Cappy-Suppan-Bush-Vargas with a 6th man of Villanueva followed by Jackson (too soon for Yo) is a bit worse. Not that it's a bad way to go into '07, but we were "hooked up phat" when we came into '06 with a ton of SP depth. The young arms will be a year older, but that's about all you can say about depth increasing for next year. So yeah, in my opinion, signing Suppan doesn't make our depth any better than last year, but it sure would make our depth better than it is right now.
  17. Great, we're going to end up with three expensive backup infielders because Graffy's agent didn't have the latest version of Acrobat on his computer.
  18. I think this is great, a wikipedia entry for BF.net is probably long overdue. Btw, does anyone know the name of that ESPN News anchor? I'd like to see that sentence changed to, "...was referenced on an ESPN News broadcast by anchor [dude's name]." Also, you think the History section should contain mention of the site being brewerfan.com in the beginning? Seems like a relevant fact. Even if it's as simple as, "...founded brewerfan.net (originally brewerfan.com) in May 2001...".
  19. I wasn't excited about this news until I googled "shannon stewart" and clicked on the first couple of links.
  20. This is not meant to be antagonizing, but there were so many posts this summer about Lee not being a super star, being a "good not great" player ... I think the concept of "don't know what you got 'til it's gone" is really going to rear its ugly head next year if he lands in the NL Central. I mean, I obviously hope he goes 0 for the season against the Crew, but I can easily envision a .400 average, 5-7 HRs, and a heck of a lot of walks against us in 2007. He is a force in the middle of the order; I still wish he was in the middle of ours.
  21. "Ten point power sword!" ...and 99,999 hit points.
  22. ...and it wasn't just any Staples commercial, it was an entire commercial dedicated to the shredder that was just shown and talked about on the show 45 seconds earlier. Totally shameless shilling ... just in time for the holidays.
  23. The music video cracked me up. The tasteless product placement / shilling turned my stomach. Swings and roundabouts, I guess....
  24. With Papelbon moving, would the Sox be interested in restocking their bullpen with Turnbow? What about scrapping the Crisp idea, trading Tbow (plus Krynzel?) for Wily Mo Pena, sticking Wily Mo in LF, and putting Hall in CF? Pena/Gross | Hall | Hart/Gross Wily's young (upside?), cheap, and unused by Boston so far ... just figured I'd mention it. His numbers looked to have improved this year (avg, ops, K/BB rate) despite his HR being down. *shrug*
