  1. That's interesting -- It looks like regardless of how you feel about Sheets, he is going to have to prove something to somebody with this next contract.
  2. I'm sure there will be a thread in 2 years when Russell Branyan is a free agent again that we should consider bringing him back again. lol It will happen WAY before 2 years.
  3. I'd pass. I don't see what use he would be -- I hope that Braun and Hart are playing most the time, and I think we could find a cheaper (Gabe Gross!) option to be that 4th OF.
  4. "They don't give out black-belts for stupid things" Andy is quickly becoming my favorite character.
  5. I have had some success sending requests via. Fed Ex, that will make them stick out. Normally I wouldn't do it, but this is an extreme case. If it can wait, I may try sending a Fed Ex to ST
  6. It would suck if Sheets went to the Yankees because we would lose out on a 1st round pick and end up with a 2nd instead. Good Point. However, a lot of the teams that Ben could go to, have their pick protected as well. Even still, I want to see Sheets end up on a decent AL team.
  7. I know I said "I've said my piece" -- but I need to add the following.... 1.) Geno rocks. 2.) Your use of "usually" is better than my use of "always".
  8. if people have examples of negativity being curbed outside of this vent thread being locked while annoying positivity has been promoted, this would lend credibility to this claim I have never made this claim. The only thing I argued was that "as negativity goes up" post quality goes down -- which is probably true -- but I would counter that post quality will always suffer when people are emotional -- be it positive or negative. I took issue with the below -- Just as one generally doesn't enjoy associating with individuals who constantly exude an air of negativity, none of us want to operate, read, or participate in a forum where entire discussions are founded entirely upon the concept of impulsively expressing displeasure. *************** The lock allows negativity to continue in other threads, the issue we have here is giving the same posters who were posting repetitive stuff another avenue to post the same stuff yet again. It seems to me last year, the Vent Thread was posted to by many different posters. I've said my piece.
  9. but that we're not going to have the 'OMG, what is Melvin doing!!!!!???!?!??!' posts that are most other places as well. I appreciate this, and I certainly support more articulate discussion... but the posts in the thread that were locked, were not "OMG posts". Getting rid of the "AOLspeak" is awesome, but that seems to be a different issue than "negativity" which is what I am addressing.
  10. I was simply responding to your implication that because I don't frequently make insightful posts about the Brewers, I'm somehow going against what we're trying to promote. If that wasn't your intention, then I'm afraid I don't really know why you felt need to comment on it in the first place. Quality is a subjective thing, you have never given me anything, that I have felt, was worthwhile to read. Ultimately, your definition of quality stands because of your position, rather than your understanding of what the community views as quality or interesting. There's a lot that we could easily do to bring more traffic to this site if that was our only goal, but it's not. I have never mentioned bringing traffic to the site, nor am I concerned about it. We're not going to betray our ideals just to be more popular. Again, not a concern of mine. I am more concerned, that you do not understand your "niche", nor the contributions that most people value. The vent thread was not a tool that brought in traffic, or made BF.net "more" popular, it was something that was popular with people already here either enjoyed reading, or posting on. I am really not trying to be snarky here, but I sincerely think you guys are missing the mark. In either case, I hope it works well.
  11. True, but what important information that you chose to ignore is the fact that I don't make low-quality posts either. I am not sure what the value in "not making low-quality posts" is, or how that qualifies as a contribution -- but, rock on. And while your cynicism may disagree, we're going to make a concerted effort to distance this community from the mentality that that sort of discourse is something that is encouraged or valued here. When I was a kid, I used to go through my dad's albums -- of course he had what I thought was a horrible taste in music... This album always stood out to me. http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/61B6TKyaX%2BL._SL500_AA240_.jpg At some point in everyone's life, you have to realize that 50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong. Appreciate that if you will, but we're doing what we believe will be most beneficial to this site. I am certain you are, but the vent thread, at the end of the day, much like Elvis, had as many views as it did for a reason. I am not sure what "mentality" or "discourse" you encountered that made you lock that thread, but the posts were certainly decent enough IMO. If locking that thread preserves BF.net for the oncoming year, then I applaud the rigid stance that you took. Otherwise I fear, you are going to lose tangible contributions, and be left with your "non-low quality" posts. I realize it is your site, your rules, my opinion isn't worth rendering, etc... I think you guys are missing the mark though.
  12. Would everyone still be as upset if the Brewers used the 9.5M in savings from this deal to try to resign Ben Sheets? No -- I think everyone is saying that if we are moving Cam to give us more salary flexibility -- that would be awesome. Throw in some Horsey sauce, and most rational people would accept Arby's from just about anyone. I think that is Advanced Business 101. -- Never turn down Arby's.
  13. Scoff if you will, but it is indeed about 'quality assurance.' Honestly, I can't remember you ever making what I would consider a quality post regarding insight or opinion on the Brewers. substantiative and intellectual discussions already taking place. On this board? -- C'mon -- I am all for good articulate discussion, but "intellectual"? Just as one generally doesn't enjoy associating with individuals who constantly exude an air of negativity, none of us want to operate, read, or participate in a forum where entire discussions are founded entirely upon the concept of impulsively expressing displeasure. As PeaveyFury astutely pointed out -- your "vent thread" had over 200 pages, and probably was your most-viewed thread (I am guessing), in 2008, so based on PF's information I would find your generality, as stated above, to be patently false. Furthermore, people seem to have a hard time grasping the concept that some people are inherently pessimistic, and some are inherently optimistic. While I certainly respect the people that can be forever optimistic, and wish I could be more that way, I tend to relate more to the half-empty point of view.
  14. If the Brewers hadn't exercised the option, would they have netted any comp picks? If so, was he a type A or B (I would assume A)? The problem with this is that Cam probably would have accepted Arby's from the Brewers.
  15. Regardless, I think Cabrera + 9.5mil to spend > Cameron. I'd agree with this -- and I think most people here at least see the argument for dumping Cam, to go get Lowe/Sheet/Dunn/etc... but Cabrera is really uninspiring.
  16. Except -- we probably would not have offered Cam Arby's.
  17. Apparently Buster Olney reported the only hangup is deciding how much money the Brewers will throw in?? This seems to be getting even worse. Maybe it is Cameron+Hall for Melky + $$$?
  18. I didn't say "projections". I said "stats" But you said this..... Because of this I don't think the production drop off will be as dramatic as the "on-paper" stats suggest. A "production drop off" is a projection not stats. The projections that Russ used have age as a variable. No one has ever suggested that they are absolute or divine, however when a person is using a projection based on stats, age is taken into account.
  19. However, stats don't take into account the age of a player or where he is in his career. Projections definitely take into account a player's age.
  20. I don't hate this deal long term but can't we at least agree on the obvious? In 2009, Melky represents a downgrade offensively and defensively from Cameron. Yeah -- I am not excited about this deal from a 2009 perspective as it stands today. If other things happen, fine... that could be exciting, but if we stand pat after this trade, it could be a long season.
  21. Is Cabrera arbitration elibible for the 2009 season? Russ -- from Rotoworld -- 2008: Near Minimum, 2009 Super Two?, 2010-12: Arb. Eligible, 2013: Free Agent So, he may qualify for Arby's in 2009.
  22. Kendall pretty much nailed his pre-Lasik projection, so I'm going to have to say that it had no obvious effect. Kendall said himself it helped him a lot -- Obviously, he still has no power, and he isn't going to start hitting all sorts of HRs because he got his eyes tweaked, but if it helps you stay competitive that is certainly good enough.
  23. I understand why people hate the Yankees, but I am glad that CC ended up there, and I hope Ben does as well. The Yankees can't hurt us, and I would rather see Ben pitching for a team that I could watch if I turned on the TV, instead of someone like the Rangers, Mariners or the Blue Jays who never are on ESPN -- and we certainly don't want Sheets pitching in Houston or Atlanta. I could get interested in a team that had 2 of our pitchers on it. CC got a chance to cash in -- and I think he earned it. He will go down as one of my favorite Brewers of all time, and I am glad he is getting that fat check. Fat Checks > Fat Chicks.
  24. Maybe I am not familiar with some of the prospects involved, but that seems like an awfully good deal for the Mets. I agree. The Mets BP is much better now -- and they really haven't stole from Paul to pay Peter.
