  1. As someone posted in the Weimer thread, this makes me pretty skeptical about OAA as a stat. Brice's reputation has always been as a defensive wiz, and he's made so many plays this season that have confirmed that rep, I can't take a stat seriously that says he's mediocre. I'm confident anyone on the Brewers staff would also laugh at that assertion.
  2. Counsell's smart enough where as long as Hader wouldn't pitch a fit, I could (would want to) see him mix and match and not have either one of them installed as closer. That would be an elite bullpen, but highly improbable. On the other hand, if your offense isn't good and you're not going to add much of value, just go the other direction and play 5 inning games...
  3. The leg kick is different, but anyone else seeing Ben Sheets in that throwing motion?
  4. That may well be the case, but pitchers don't go and sabotage their career and massive potential earnings because they can't wait to leave the organization and sign with someone else. If Burnes has a 4+ ERA for too much longer, he's looking at a completely different contract than if he's a consistent Cy Young contender.
  5. Yeah, the goal isn't to win 100 games; it's to get into the playoffs and hope that all the pitchers are rolling. Is it likely? I dunno, but that's the scenario you're hoping for.
  6. Sarcasm is by definition intended to mock the recipient, so in that respect, that's not the level of discourse we strive for. More typically sarcasm refers to saying something but implying the exact opposite, which is obviously not what's happening here, and happens all the time (we've even adopted the text in blue convention for better conveying what is typically a tone of voice). There is nothing gained in mocking a legitimate point of view by saying that the person is living in fantasyland. If someone posts on how we're going to trade for Shohei and win the World Series? Sure, they're probably living in fantasy land. That's not this. This forum has existed for decades on the premise of a different level of discussion than the typical "win the internet at all costs" type posting that ends up in a race to the bottom.
  7. Don't look now, but if you don't count Toro's 8 ABs, Yelich has the highest OPS on the team. That's more of an indictment of our terrible offense, but it's not nothing.
  8. What's that supposed to mean? I agree Adames doesn't belong near the top of the lineup.
  9. I'm 99% sure this is on Counsell. There was a past quote where he basically said he wasn't sure what he wanted to do next year. If he decides he wants to continue, he'll be back. If he wants to watch his kids, can't fault him for that.
  10. Your tone is tiresome. You can disagree without the over the top attacks like living in fantasyland.
  11. I'm not sure why you keep using Fred. It's not his name.
  12. Not quite the start you were looking for.
  13. I was already beaten to the obvious Rays counterpoint, but that is exactly what they're trying to do. There's a huge difference between a plan and reality, but that's why you do things like trade Hader for Gasser. You know that Burnes and/or Woodruff are on their way out and are starting to restock, and that's much more important than paying a closer $15M/yr. Could it fail, of course! But asserting that the FO is just paying lip service to the idea of being competitive and really is planning to tear things down is unfounded.
  14. I think that's a little harsh. To me it's clear they believe they can walk a line between getting value for talent and maintaining a competitive team without completely tearing down. Whether they can remains to be seen, but if you're saying they don't actually believe that, I think you're wrong.
  15. Looking at the highlight in today's minor league game thread, his setup looks pretty different to me. There's very little leg kick anymore, The fact that he has altered his swing is the only thing giving me hope that maybe something really is different this time, but until he does it against MLB pitching a health degree of skepticism is warranted.
  16. Nice article by ESPN's Doolittle: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/36288474/milwaukee-brewers-most-improved-mlb-team "They are younger. They are more athletic. They are more fun. They are deeper. And because of all these factors, they are better." "Through the Boston series, no team had more WAR from rookies than Milwaukee." "Of the nine players who have currently played the most at their respective positions, only three are carryovers from last season: Tellez, Adames and Christian Yelish." "...players so often seem to just get better after they join the Brewers. For all the attention that has gone to teams like the Rays, Dodgers and San Franciso Giants for their ability in this area, Milwaukee ranks right with them. Two of the offseason acquisitions, Anderson and Contreras, are the latest examples of this." "The Brewers rank in the top 10 positionally by fWAR at most spots and are in the positive at most of the others, except for DH. And that ranking could change fast if Winker gets going. They rank second in Fangraphs' team defensive metric and have an elite ERA+ of 120. In other words, this is a complete team without any glaring weaknesses and with excellent depth (as long as the injury bug doesn't get worse), a balanced set of skills and a number of players who should continue to trend in a positive direction."
  17. Catcher A: .309/.390/.412 Catcher B: .333/.419/.444 Which catcher should be getting more DH opportunities? :)
