  1. Damn, it's just one man's opinion and he's putting some honest thought into it. That's fine if you don't agree but this seemed rather harsh.
  2. I am sick of seeing this debate pop up in every thread. The response is the same every time. Clancy says Braun should still be at third, he wasn't that bad, etc. And everyone else disagrees, even providing facts. And then Clancy brings it to a new thread.
  3. That's what I meant. Like maybe Ray has some Jedi mind trick and has underslot deals in place with lots of guys, maybe he sold them on the "good of the organization" or something. He has enough to get someone for 1 million and one of them will jump on it.
  4. I have no idea why but I feel like we will sign at least one guy considered "unsignable" or a "long-shot." Part of me thinks that Ray has something up his sleeve for drafting all of these guys. But I know the more logical conclusion is, "hey, what the hell, why not?"
  5. Quick Google Search: The OED online has this listed as definition 5.B of "ginger": B. adj.1 dial. Of hair: Having the colour of ginger. Of a person: Sandy-haired. Of a cock: Having red plumage. a1825 R. Forby Vocab. E. Anglia (1830) , Ginger, of a pale red colour, particularly applied to hair. 1834 T. Medwin Angler in Wales I. 35, I perceive a fine red or ginger game-cock in the yard. 1886 R. Holland Gloss. Words County of Chester, Ginger, sandy-haired. ‘He's a bit ginger.’ 1897 Daily News 10 Sept. 2/6, Complexion and hair brown, moustache ginger.
  6. Nepotism running wild with the 'Stros. Kody Clemens in the 35th. Nepotism prize goes to the Angels who took Mike Trout's girlfriend's brother. Is that like AJ Hawk and Brady Quinn?
  7. Hypothetically, if we signed all 3 (Hooper, Everett, India) and lost next year's 1st, would that be the equivalent of adding 2 additional 1st rounders this year in Hooper/Everett? Or is next year's draft so strong that guys drafted this year would likely be 2nd-3rd rounders next year?
  8. Alonzo Jones to the Cubs. If they find a way to sign him...I know it's highly highly unlikely but damn, would they be looking good.
  9. Nepotism running wild with the 'Stros. Kody Clemens in the 35th.
  10. Conor Biggio drafted by the Astros in the 34th round. Why does that name sound familiar?
  11. http://www.brewcrewball.com/2015/6/8/8733041/2015-mlb-draft-brewers-among-best-at-drafting-from-2003-2012 Obviously they read this article and want to lead the league in WAR of guys they've ever drafted, even if not signed.
  12. Kolton Mahoney just drafted by the Yankees in the 15th. I thought that name looked familiar. Lo and behold, Brewers drafted him last year in the 23rd. No idea how I remembered that.
  13. Who is M Molitor? Now Paul Molitor, I'd take. I think the M is manager. Hence, M Counsell and M Molitor.
  14. I heard there is a new "classy" round. They were the only team to qualify. The Braves came close.
  15. You really shouldn't use the draft to find a position, you should use it to find the best player available. Most of these guys won't be making an impact for 4-5 years at the earliest and a lot of things can change. If you find a great hitter and athlete, he can always be moved to another position, like 3rd base. Quite a few 3rd basemen play SS in high school/college because they are the best athlete on the team. You shouldn't pigeonhole yourself into a position just because we have few in the system. Sure it'd be nice to have one but you should be looking for the BPA.
  16. It is good but I still like Trey Cabbage.
  17. Damn, really wanted him if we were going position player. Now I want Allard or Nikorak, whomever is left.
  18. As am I. The back injury doesn't scare me like an elbow.
  19. Good pick for the Cubs. I really like what they're doing down there.
  20. I don't know why but I'm not a Kyle Tucker fan.
  21. The kid is 21 and jumped from AA to The ShowTM. His K rate has hovered between 26% and 38% in his career, with a walk rate between 10% and 20%. He's obviously going to strike out a lot but the kid has talent and will very likely be putting up monster HR numbers while walking a lot as well.
  22. I really don't remember hearing much of this at the time. Everything I've read about signability concerns is relatively recent. Maybe teams are saying that because they don't want to admit they missed? I remember the majority of concerns were whether he would make enough contact (much like Gatewood last year). Gallo was committed to LSU, sure, but I don't think there was much to be concerned about, he only signed for $2.25 million, about $1 million over slot. And this was before we had bonus pools to worry about, so they could have paid him what they were willing. Unfortunately, the Brewers almost never paid guys more than slot, yet they'll give Braden Looper, Jeff Suppan, etc. tens of millions.
  23. I wanted Gallo from the get go. I was fine with the Coulter pick but was screaming at the TV when they took Roache (wrist injuries are scary and I didn't want to take the chance) and then was ready to rip my TV off the wall when they took Haniger and Gallo was still there. When Gallo went immediately next, good thing there weren't any puppies around, as they all would have been punted.
  24. I'm headed out there tonight, I'll do some scouting while I'm there.
  25. Aiken's odd UCL scares me so I'm staying away in the 1st, though I would take him in the supplemental round if he was there (highly unlikely). I'm looking at: 1) Allard - I know back injuries can be scary and sometimes linger, but I think this kid is special. It also doesn't appear as if his injury is as significant as Aiken. 2) Nikorak 3) Happ 4) Whitley I'd prefer to target pitching but it really should be BPA.
