  1. What stupid bad LUCK. Walk, weak grounder througha hole... infield single and then a blooper down the LF line. Man o man. Bush(Dave) needs to go. From this game? What's the point now? Might as well not burn through the bullpen for a lost game.
  2. Dunn is pretending he's going to bunt out of the super shift. he took a strike http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I'm following the game on gameday so I wasn't able to see the play, but how did Koskie not score on that Moeller double? Koskie tagged up to try and get to 3rd when Dunn made the catch.... except that Dunn didn't http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  4. I wonder if BP is still laughing at the Brewers for getting Koskie? He sure has looked nice in his platoon role. EDIT: The second I type that Koskie makes a silly mistake not scoring on a ball off the wall.
  5. Hey look, the TV guys are making a HUGE deal out of Bush's home read splits right now. They just can't figure out why Bush has done so much better at home so far this year. Bill thinks it might have something to do with Bush feeding off the more structured routine at home.
  6. 5-0... no outs. Unbelievable. After a nice start this season, Bush just looks BAD.
  7. Another HORRIBLE start by a Brewer starting pitcher.
  8. A link I found stated that CF OPS from 1987-2002 was .752 while it was .721 for 2Bs. In 2003, it was .757 vs .736. This gap is bigger than the difference between 2B and C. Just a 9 point difference between CF and 2B last year, .753 to .744. I personally think CF numbers are brought down by dumb management who emphasizes speedy slap hitters that steal bases, and not simply by how hard the position is. That speed is also valuable in covering alot of ground in the OF, so it's hard to say what's better or worse. Watching Griffey let balls bloop in front of him, I wonder if his offense makes up for it sometimes.
  9. Thats entirely too flip. You feel like you ahev control which makes it seem liek no chance is involved. Well, the "skill" part of flipping a coin is knowing you have a 50% chance of getting heads, just like a .300 batter has 30% chance of getting a hit. Of course, if you only flip/bat 10 times, random chance is going to have a large influence in the results.
  10. I honestly think that players and former players have trouble thinking a stat can be meaningless or due to chance. Anyone who's flipped a coin or rolled dice should be able to appreciate that stats are at least partially governed by chance.
  11. I have never heard a broadcaster say they could predict what was going to happen based on the stats. When they threw up Jenkin's early splits aginst lefties last year, Bill Schoeder went on to explain WHY Jenkins stats had improved against lefties (some nonsense about a mythical adjustment). Nowhere in his explanation was, "His splits are meaningless and do not represent Jenkins' actual abilities against lefties". Jenkins just had some early luck against them and his stats eventually went back in line with his career stats. If they show stats just for entertainment, I find them as interesting as everyone else.
  12. You can just ESPN to look at any splits you want but you are going to see most of them bounce around seamingly randomly because they are. Also, OPS with runners on is going to be a bit different by default for all players/teams.
  13. If Weeks can starighten out his defense, I think Hardy should become the new Super UT. I consider Hardy teh best defender on the team, so I think you keep him at the most demanding infield stop, IMO. Hall has proven he can play at least 4 positions quite well. I'm not sure Hardy could pull that off - actually, I'm quite certain he couldn't. As a general rule, any SS with a decent arm could handle any position (short of C). It's not like Hardy couldn't chase down slyballs in the outfield. He just wouldn't because he's far more valuable at a more demanding position. I was amazed when FSN showed that Billy is hitting over .400 against lefties (with 1.000+ OPS) and around .230 against righties. I am continuously amazed about how ignorant the FSN crew is about small samples. Every April and May, the tv guys are just amazed by some insane split that just destroys logic. last year it was the fact that Jenkins magically started hitting lefties. Bill even had some ridiculous theory behind why Jenkins learned how to hit them. They'd be better off just ignoring stats altogether until after the all star break.
  14. It's not fair to directly compare Hall and Hardy's bat, since Hardy is still a young player and developing his talents. Hall has already gone through his growing pains. Hardy is an investment; Hall is good to go now. There are always injuries, so with Hall's flexibility, he'll always get playing time. Hall will get 450+ AB, which isn't much less than an everyday starter. I'd be willing to put a small wager on Hall being a starter next year.
  15. Koskie just keeps hitting... Boy, is it possible that the Brewers could score more than one run in an inning without the aid of a HR? Kind of an odd criticism to thow out there, IMO. Apparently, no matter how good the offense is, someone will find something to complain about.
  16. All I know is, if the Brewers win today they are 2 games up, instead of 3 games up. I can live with that.
  17. Bill Hall has an OPS of close to 4 trillion. Actually, only .965. During his slump his OPS dipped under .950! I was really worried about the kid. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Wow, Weeks' defense even looks WORSE in high def! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. I can't wait to see Bill Schroeder in high def!
  20. Offense: The Twins have the 5th lowest OPS in the AL (.71http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif The Brewers have the best OPS in the NL (.814) In terms of offense, both teams are on the complete opposite sides of the spectrum. Pitching/Defense: The Twins have the lowest OPS against in the AL (.851) The Brewers have the 4th best OPS against in the NL (.721) Again, the Brewers absolutely dominate. Of course, the Twin's starting pitching has been overhauled and my estimates only use overall pitching numbers but the Brewers look great on paper. But as they say...
  21. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7391/569/320/win%20prob419.gif 84% chance of winning the series? Too bad the starting pitchers who contributed most to the Twins problems are no longer in the rotation. Take these probabilities with a grain of salt (whatever that means), as a result. Atleast their offense still sucks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I'm really not one to use sarcasm. I find it childish and confusing. Seriously.
  23. Cool. I suppose you were there. You are the man I didn't even study baseball statistics then. Brewerfan .net turned me onto it around 2003.
  24. Reading that Philli game thread: * Philli can't hit with RISP * Philli pitchers always get's owned by the bottom of the order. * Every Philli opponent sucks and should easily be beaten. * More whining about leaving too many men on base. * Philli always blow multiple chances to put a game away. * Their manager and bullpen sucks. * Late inning collapses are the norm for them. * Philli lacks heart. And on and on. I suppose you could subsititute "philli" for any team that lost today and you would have no idea what team the board is even for!
  25. Elite closers don't burn themselves up getting up and down repeatedly during games like other relievers so theoretically they can throw more pitches.. That's the first time I ever heard that. If anything, I'd assume the opposite regarding endurance. We just took the hottest team in baseball and swept them Hot or not, The Philli appeared to have been overperforming and the Brewers underperforming. I calculated that the Brewers had about a 75% chance of taking 2 and about a 30% chance of sweeping. They were nice enough to prove my optimism correct!
