  1. I have the same opinion as you. Another decade-long streak of having no chance of competing might do it for me. If I see a $40 mil payroll for an extended period again, it's a waste of time.
  2. As a guy who looks at the numbers first and my heart second, it doesn't matter to me at all how the Brewers have fared against teams above and below .500. Overall record and strength of schedule is the first two things I look at. The idea that the Brewers have some team quality that allows that to beat poor teams more often than expected but better teams less often seems silly. How would that even work?
  3. wOBA is context neutral metric. The voters want to know the actual impact of the would-be MVPers performance. WPA/LI seems more appropriate: http://www.fangraphs.com/...nth=0&season1=2011&ind=0 And if you want to use UZR to estimate how well a player has been defensively for a given year, you need to regress it (a lot).
  4. I disagree, according to the latest elias updates Marcum is a type A free agent and not by a little margin he is ranked 8th in the NL. This would make obviously mean he is worth 2 extra picks to any team that acquires him. Good point on the compensation picks. The fact remains, however, that a team would still only be trading for a year or Marcum. Even with his outstanding 2011 season, it would be hard for me to believe that he's worth as much in a trade now than he was when the Brewers traded for him. What are we assuming he'll get paid next year? As a projected 3.6 ERA starting pitcher, his free agent value has to be north of $15 mil.
  5. The Brewers own Marcum for only one more year so I don't see them getting anything huge for him. It would be hard to get a prearby prospect, for instance.
  6. We will without a doubt have to play Philadelphia anyway. That is without a doubt not true. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The odds of Philly losing in the first round will probably be around 25%. And the Phillies have outscored the Braves by over 100 runs this year. They aren't even close to each other.
  7. Can Green get two starts a week against righty starters please?
  8. Nope. That has to be Bengie Molina last year for Texas. Widely known as the slowest player in the major leagues he actually completed the cycle by legging out a triple in his last at-bat. The triple was the only triple he hit all year. To go into the last AB needing to do something he hadn't done even once all year, the odds had to be astronomical. Over his career, he's averaged a triple every 860 PA, so he was apparently due.
  9. Kotsay has a .676 OPS as a starter this season, so he hasn't exactly shined in that role.
  10. Norris has a pretty typical career platoon split, doesn't he? http://www.baseball-refer...01&year=Career&t=p#plato Why focus on just his 2011 split? Did Norris just start throwing sliders this year or is this just another example of stats being abused by an MLB manager?
  11. Well, Roenicke gave Green a PH in a relatively important situation, so there is hope.
  12. For MANY years the only fun the Brewers had in September was to act as a spoiler so thanks to the Reds. And Prince makes this a laugher. Good day to be a Brewers fan.
  13. I won't say what many of us are thinking http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Only a terrible throw stop there being a play at home. For that reason, I don't have a problem with Braun making an out there.
  15. I don't care what anyone says. Whatever happens, this has been an entertaining game to watch.
  16. Green getting a chance here is at least progress. EDIT: Second ML AB and he didn't poop his pants in a big situation!? Unbelievable!
  17. None of that will happen. Need a guy who can bunt at #2, Betancourt has been hitting the ball hard and plays good defense and the players will get mad if Green gets a start.
  18. No one said the playoffs are in the bag. The Brewers losing 4 in a row (if they do) is not some kind of choke job either. Othewise, I'm not going to tell anyone when they should get worried or not. I will just sooth myself with the fact that the Brewers are still easily 10:1 favorites to win the Central.
  19. Guys, the Brewers were incredibly hot for an insane amount of time, now they are losing some games. That's how it works. This was practically inevitable. Despite struggling, Greinke has only given up 2 runs in 4 IP. Plenty of game left. If you find yourself getting too frustrated, just look at the standings. Things are almost certainly going to be OK.
  20. As someone else mentioned, Greinke has thrown very few off speed pitches for strikes. Stros are jumping on fastballs like mad.
  21. When a Brewer starting pitcher has given up 1 earned run in 3+ IP, it's hard for me to muster up more than mild annoyance over his performance. Terrible throw by Lucroy.
  22. Good question, it is begining to get really old. It has become routine. Luckly in the postseason we won't be facing an scrub young pitchers. Your expectations are simply too high.
  23. If you called up Gamel where would you play?I would like Gamel to take Kotsay's role. That still won't amount to much playing time but it would be a heck of a lot more playing time than he actually will get.
