  1. Astros. It would need to be Bregman and/or Reed, one of the top flight pitching prospects, Musgrove or Martes and few lower tier guys. I don't want to give up Bregman. But there's a ton of talent to get Sale.
  2. I don't get it. Castro is a good defensive catcher, serviceable offensively. Gattis has shown to be a solid backup. I don't see how Lucroy fits. Gurriel moves Valbuena to first and Reed's at first already, so Luc wouldn't play first. You've got a rotation of a whole bunch of guys at DH. If the Astros need anything, it's one more starting pitcher. Fiers is inconsistent, Keuchel is getting back into form, McCullers is young, Fister has been solid, and McHugh has had two excellent second halves the last two years. A top flight starter would go a long way. Gurriel is the mid season bat. Houston was linked to Lucroy over the winter, with Castro and Gattis already on the roster - they view him as a clear upgrade, which of course, he would be. Yes, Houston, and many other teams, would benefit by dealing for a top flight starter, but there are zero of them available right now, depending on your definition. The whole industry is scouting Rich Hill, but he left early again today, this time, a blister exploded on his pitching hand. They're all watching Odorizzi and Moore in Tampa too, and then you've got Ervin Santana and Jeremy Hellickson. That, "guy", just isn't being made available right now - no Greinke, no Price, no Cueto .... Hill, Odorizzi, Hellickson, etc. This is why, whatever you think of his merits, Jimmy Nelson may have real value right now, because he's not on a big contract, he offers team control, and the guys at the head of the class cannot be had. Which is why I hope the Astros stay pat. There's enough in the tank and in the minors that would help get a bunch of postseason games....and wins.

  4. Yeah, I'm not excited about giving up Reed, but it depends on the return. If it's a top of the line starter under team control for a few years, I could see that. But it will be interesting to see what happens.
  5. The Astros don't need Lucroy. They need a starting pitcher, maybe a BP piece. But I could see Stearns trying to get some young guys from the Astros. But I don't what the Brewers have that the Astros need.
  6. Gurriel is going to play 3B and if called up Bregman can play DH mainly and occasionally 3B/SS. Sure Gattis won't have an everyday spot, but he has sucked this year. AJ Reed plays 1B. Luis Valbuena would play 1B over Reed This year, yes, but Valbuena is playing so far above his head (and career numbers) since May 1st. He's also going to be a free agent after this year. Reed is going to be an excellent hitter. He's a good defensive first baseman, but his big plus is hitting. I'm not sure if he's putting too much pressure on himself right now, but I think he'll be fine. The Astros have depth, flexibility and quality at many positions. Not a bad thing to have at all!!
  7. Morosi tweeted that he asked someone in the know if Bregman would get traded. Answer was flat no. The only way I see him getting traded is for someone like Sale.
  8. Bregman can play 3rd, left or DH. So can Gurriel. If Bregman goes anywhere, it's probably as a centerpiece for an ace, say, like Sale, if he's on the market. I'd rather see Lucroy go to the Rangers and decimate their depth, so they keep losing.
  9. Does the clock come with pocket doppler as well?
  10. Send Lucroy to the Rangers for whatever package guts them completely. I want them to lose a lot!
  11. I don't know if Bregman gets dealt. Gourriel could play 3rd, left, DH.....but so could Bregman. It's a great move, and what I'm hoping for is lots of fall baseball in Houston!
  12. Here in Houston, we're ready for GoGo to be gonegone. I loved him as a Brewer and had high hopes for him and Fiers. Last Fiers was helpful, GoGo nono. This season, they both started horrible and Fiers has marginally improved, while GoGo has gotten worse. I mean, there's talk of cutting him, which I think is a good thing. Luhnow even said in talking about him on sports radio last week, something to the effect of his production isn't what we're expecting for him to stay on the team. Bush move by Smith, and what I've read of his stuff and heard him on the radio, I like him. But no one will do everything perfectly.
  13. Yike!! At this point, concern for baseball is secondary. Recovery for everyday life is important. Praying for him.
  14. Did you guys see this? It's very scary when a player gets hit in the head. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/15028269/rymer-liriano-milwaukee-brewers-taken-hospital-bean-ball
  15. You seem really fixated on the Astros way but seem to think the entire plan was to tank to get top draft picks. Yet tanking has pretty little to do with either of those team's success so far. This article has a pretty nice breakdown of how much the top picks from tanking has helped get them to where they are now. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/68059/dont-credit-tanking-for-the-success-of-cubs-and-astros It's how the Astros scouted and developed their talent. Take the year that the Rookie of the Year Carlos Correa was drafted. They got him to sign under slot to give them more to sign their 2nd round pick. Lance McCullers Jr. Both were integral in the Astros getting into the playoffs....and will play a huge role in years to come.
  16. In Stearns I trust. What a trade. Wonder what his return on Lucroy will be?
  17. Right, in both, listen to offers on. For Arcia/Correa, you're asking for the team's top 5 players in return at minimum.
  18. This. I'm looking for value. Paying $70 a month for 350 channels, where I maybe watch 20 of them, doesn't strike me as a value. Paying for Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime, I can watch what I want when I want. That's a value to me. As for sports, I haven't watched as much since I've cut the cord, because I don't have access. It's not the end of the world, but if I had the opportunity to buy it at a good value, I would.
  19. Not everyone wants to pay nearly $1,000 per year to watch sports on TV. I watch sports on my laptop using free streaming websites. The quality of the free sites has gotten considerably better in the past few years. I'll be happy to start paying again when sports packages are offered at a reasonable cost. But for now, the alternatives are a much better option than going through the expense of buying a TV and cable package. That's exactly it. People are moving toward on demand programming, and less toward the standard cable/satellite. I did it because I didn't feel I was getting good value.
  20. Didn't say it was reliable. See post 1951. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=269471&page=98
  21. Does the "forum" happen to be named Ground Control? I have never seriously considered Braun wearing any other uniform than a Brewers one, so from standpoint it would be quite a surprise. Clutchfans.net
  22. Just saw on an Astros forum I'm on that based on a source inside the Astros, Braun is being discussed with money going to Houston. What do you think? What would you be looking for in prospects?
  23. I've been watching the documentary "The History of The Eagles" on Netflix. I highly recommend it. In depth, and awesome.....especially in light of Glenn's passing.
  24. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2016/01/19/mlb-tv-settlement-is-big-win-for-baseball-fans/?tid=sm_fb I'm happy that there's progress....but, in reading the details, for folks like me who have cut the cord, this doesn't help. I don't have a cable subscription. Sure, I could borrow someone else's login info, but that's still another cheat around the system. Why can't it just be, here's the flat cost to buy all your team's games for a season as a separate subscription, no cable subscription, no nothing. But again....it's progress.
