  1. Nice article about Corbin Burnes by Robert Murray on The Athletic today for those that subscribe (and for those that don't, I highly recommend it). A detailed look into his background and development from early on. https://theathletic.com/769159/2019/01/17/moving-into-the-rotation-corbin-burnes-could-be-the-brewers-next-homegrown-superstar/ A few choice quotes- - Discussing his relationship with new Brewers pitching coach Chris Hook: - Regarding his change-up:
  2. Also keep in mind that Lowrie is now reunited with his former agent (the Mets’ new GM) so there were factors other than $$$ likely in play here as well.
  3. If they are going to have one this year, it will almost certainly be either against the Dodgers or the Cubs. Looking at the schedule, we play the Dodgers twice and the Cubs a whopping 6 times on Sundays. Of those 8 games, 4 of the dates have already been assigned ESPN Sunday Night games to other teams. The four that would be possible: April 14 @ LA Dodgers April 21 vs. LA Dodgers May 12 @ Chicago Cubs Sep 1 @ Chicago Cubs Of those 4 games, 3 are currently listed as TBD start times (the home game on 4/21 has a 1:10 start time listed). Therefore, if we get a Sunday night game this year, it will probably either be April 14, May 12, or September 1. If I were to bet, I would say it would be the Labor Day weekend game vs. the Cubs. It makes sense logistically (the following day, the Cubs have a home game and we host the Astros) and the odds are pretty good that both teams will be in the thick of the playoff hunt as the calendar turns to September.
  4. There was an article on The Ringer today discussing the demolition of the Mariners that included an interesting tidbit about Jack Z that I don't recall hearing before. It sounds like he sold the Mariners a bill of goods. We are very fortunate to have David Stearns at the helm. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2018/12/6/18128754/seattle-mariners-jerry-dipoto-rebuild-robinson-cano-james-paxton-edwin-diaz
  5. So was last night the last start of the series for Manny Pina? If we go with Chacin and Miley in some combination for Games 6 and (if needed) 7, we know based on the second half of the season that Kratz will start both games.
  6. Wondering what Erik Kratz can do for an encore? Well, he does have two scoreless appearances in relief vs. the Dodgers this year. Just when you think our bullpen can’t get any nastier...
  7. For those with TDS, they are running a free trial of MLB Network October 3 through 10 (conveniently covering the full NLDS window).
  8. I think they will plan on having Carlos Gomez throw out the first pitch of Game 2. Then, right before he is supposed to take the mound, you will hear over the PA system, "Josie's on a vacation far away...." as he is replaced by Mark Kotsay.
  9. Final game of the regular season vs. the Cubs with a lot at stake. Braun comes through with a big hit in the 8th inning to give us a 3-1 lead. Our dominant lefty closes the door with the tying run at the plate. Seems I've seen this movie before...
  10. One scenario that is possible that would really suck... Yelich finishes the day first in all 3 Triple Crown categories. Brewers win and Cubs lose, which prevents Game 163. However, the Dodgers and Rockies are forced to play Game 163 and either Story or Arenado passes Yelich in HR or RBI tomorrow. They are close enough that it would be possible.
  11. As of this morning, Yelich has caught Cain in bWAR for position players (both at 7.0) at the top of the NL leaderboard. Baez is a distant third at 6.2. This almost assures that the Brewers will have the top 2 bWAR position players in their league for the first time (Yount and Molitor were first and third in 1982). They have only had 4 different position players achieve a bWAR of 7.0 or greater for a season. Yount did it 3 times (1980, 1982, and 1983). The others were Gomez in 2013, Braun in 2011, and Tommy Harper in 1970.
  12. On the morning of Sunday, August 19th, the Brewers were 68-57 after losing their third straight game (1 to the Cubs and 2 to the Cardinals). Up to that point, they were a dismal 20-28 vs. the NL Central despite being 19 games over .500 vs. the rest of baseball. They also were 4th in the Wild Card standings, behind the Phillies, Cardinals, and Rockies. That day at Busch Stadium, Jhoulys Chacin faced John Gant. Brewers won 2-1. Fast forward 38 days to September 26th... Jhoulys Chacin faces John Gant at Busch Stadium. The Brewers win 2-1 to secure a post-season birth and at worst the #1 WC. During that stretch, the Brewers went 24-10 overall, including 19-9 vs. the NL Central to actually give them a winning record in the division (39-37).
  13. Is there any way that we can compile all of the AP stories that BSCR has written over the years into one spot? I always love reading these stories and it would be fun to look back at some of his past stories.
  14. I prefer JonnyLuc as it is less French-sounding (as Funketown pointed out above).
  15. MPSouth, I am not sure about anwhere that has games from '82 or '87 archived, but if you are a fan of Uecker, I would highly recommend the Baseball Voices CD of Bob Uecker. It can be purchased at the link below for $14.95 and includes free shipping. http://www.baseballvoices.com/html/bob_uecker.html On the CD are many of the classic Uecker calls from 1987 (the last three outs of the Nieves no-hitter, both the Deer and Svuem home runs from Easter Sunday, several calls from Molitor's hitting streak) as well as stuff from 1982. It has his call of Robin's 3000th hit, highlights of his classic HOF induction speech, lines from Major League, Miller Lite commercials, and other classic exchanges that long-time Brewer fans will no doubt remember ("Hey Myrtle, you just won yourself a thouasnd bucks!", Jean Jacque Smythe, etc.). It is narrated by Bob's long-time broadcast partner, Pat Hughes, which makes it even better. It was well worth the $15 I spent on it.
  16. The best brats I have found are the Red Lager Beer Brats from Bavaria Sausage in Madison (off of 18/151 near Quivey's Grove and Ten Pin Alley). We get them for work outings and they are incredible. I usually get them pre-cooked, brown them on the grill, and then soak them in beer and onions until serving. They even sell them online - https://www.bavariasausage.com/shop/products.php?product_id=565&storecategory_id=32.
  17. My favorites are the Texarkana Burger (incredible) at the Great Dane and, for fast food, a Double Bacon Butter Burger Deluxe at Culvers.
  18. Has anyone else had issues viewing parts of the Brewers' website? I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 and have tried both IE 7 and Firefox 3.0.8. I cannot view Gameday or anything except for the text on the front page of brewers.com, and nothing happnens when I click on the green "T" to purchase tickets. I have tried disabling the pop-up blocker as well. I have searched the technical FAQ on the mlb.com website to no avail. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.
  19. I really think that Mark Attanasio needs to get involved. He needs to let these guys know that unless they start winning, his son's band will be playing in the clubhouse before and after games. If that doesn't lead to a winning streak, nothing will.
  20. Here are a few of my favorites that I can think of: Pizzaria Uno's in Platteville: This Uno's in not affiliated with the national chain, and this is a good thing. The use beer in their pizza crust and are very generous with their toppings. They also have the best Long Island's I have ever had and come in a 30 oz or so mug for $6. Edwardo's Pizza Wagon in LaCrosse: Again, this is not to be confused with the Edwardo's pizza chain. They have a wide selection of incredible wood-fried pizzas and the best deep fried cheese curds I have ever had. They are literally the size of a golf ball. Antoher restuarant that my wife and I liked is That's Amore in Milwaukee. We were recommended by a friend and have only been there once, but it was very difficult to choose from the entrees, which all looked great. We both really liked our selections, and will probably go back again sometime.
  21. Welcome to September... it's the new August.
  22. It bothers me that some people try to pin this one on Yost. It was lack of execution, plain and simple. Riskie didn't do his job, and off-target throws by Cameron and Hardy didn't help matters any. Add in a few missed opportunities at the plate, and it all ends up in a L. But don't try to tell me that this one is on Yost.
  23. This totally reminds me of Michigan State fans and media since Bo Ryan took over the Badgers. They used to consistently beat the Badgers, but when Bo took over, the tables turned, and they simply couldn't accept it. They much preferred beating up on those Steve Yoder led teams, and now that they can't beat Bo, the Badgers are "classless" and Bo is the devil himself.
  24. Weeks was real close to picking up a chick but fumbled away the opportunity by dropping the drink that he was bringing to her.
