  1. Thats right - I've taken to quoting myself! Normally I would agree with both of you. But CC Sabathia wasn't Scott Linebrink or Ray Durham. Like I said, it was epic how the Milwaukee fans embraced him. (Watching the highlight DVD brought back how crazy his short time with Milwaukee truly was) Did CC pitch any games in Milwaukee that weren't a sell out?
  2. Completely agree. Assuming the numbers are reasonable, Looper could be a great signing. But he is way better than some of our other options. I'll gladly take another Dave Bush.
  3. I'm kinda disappointed that CC didn't purchase the full page Journal Sentinel ad thanking Milwaukee for his time here. I know it was really short lived - but the fans embraced CC in an epic manner. It would have been a nice touch.
  4. I don't want to divert the thread - but getting a middle reliever was to help push towards the playoff. In the end, I believe the Brewers saw more value in two high draft picks than Inman, Garrison & Thatcher.
  5. Yes. I believe Sheets was so insulted that he will never play for the Brewers again.
  6. I think you vastly underestimate the ego of a world class athlete. I would imagine the Brewers telling Ben Sheets that they planned to "wait and see" was about the most insulting thing the Brewers could have done to Ben. (From Ben's perspective)
  7. I've advocated from day one that we try to sign Dunn for 4 years 40M to play OF. We could have a 4 man rotation with Dunn/Cameron/Braun/Hart this year. Next year, Hart could possibly play CF - or Dunn takes over at 1B for Prince. The problem is, signing Dunn means he likely has to play 1B at some point. How upset would Prince be to know his replacement is standing by?
  8. Wow. That's some nice praise for you Josh. Now, when they all make the MLB squad - if you turn into Scott Boras, I'll take back every nice thing I've ever said about you. (I couldn't decide to put that in blue or not)
  9. Ohka never gets any love. He posted a very servicable 4.38 and 4.85 ERA while in Milwaukee. Spivey was junk at that point - any time you get a #4 pitcher for junk...that equals a win. A lot of people are forgetting the huge impact Cameron had on the Brewers. He carried the team in August. And his personality was all over this young squad. The team actually seemed depressed when he had to serve his suspension and giddy like school girls upon his return. A good argument can be made that Cameron was the heart and soul of the Brewers last year. Cruz still has a chance to contribute at the MLB level. In 115 at bats he put up over a 1.000 OPS last year. He has holes, but he still has lots of power too. I love how quiet the critics of this trade have become. Inman had a very good year - but really fell off the "prospect" status as the pure stuff just isn't there. I don't even like the two players we received from the Linebrink draft picks, but they do have more potential than the pitchers we gave up.
  10. I agree with you that the evidence isn't crystal clear - I think most of it is simply "reading between the lines." If there was a chance at a contract - it wouldn't have been "he's going to be OK". Melvin would have said something closer to "We'll see what happens" Also, Sheets expressed displeasure when the Brewers declined to offer him a contract extension before last season. If you remember, the Brewers told him "We'll see how this year goes" - to which Ben was upset. During the year, when Ben was pitching fantastic, there was rumors that the Brewers wanted to open negotiations again. I believe Ben's quote was "You can't invite yourself back to the table" Taking those facts in addition to the fact that Sheets doesn't like to bat and has been treated poorly (Scapegoated) in Milwaukee for the past 3 years - I see lets of evidence that would lead to a conclusion that their is friction between Ben Sheets and the Milwaukee Brewers.
  11. Even still - you have to admit, the silence is deafening. A healthy Ben Sheets get 2 years and $25 million EASY. I thought after his initial injury the prognosis was that he was going to avoid surgery. (But that surgery wasn't that far out of reach either.)
  12. I was just wondering about Yo the other day. Why didn't he pitch in the Arizona Fall League at all this year? I mean, I know he is MLB ready - but if he knee is sounds, wouldn't it have been advantageous to get him a few extra innings so that we aren't taxing his arm so much in 2009?
  13. I've stated several times that Russel Branyan was the key to the Brewers playoff run (Without his hot streak - the Brewers never would have traded for CC) and I don't think he was even mentioned during the entire DVD. Also, when did it become "Fox Sports Wisconsin" instead of "Fox Sports Network - Wisconsin"?
  14. Sorry about the confusion. After rereading my post - I certainly give that impression. I haven't heard anywhere that Sheets' injury would hamper him from pitching in 2009. My point was that if he was currently 100% healthy and ready to pitch, I think teams would be ready to sign him. Since he hasn't been signed, I assume that he still has a ways to go before he is ready to pitch. (Possibly meaning that he might miss some of 2009 on his current injury)
  15. If Sheets were currently throwing with no pain at full speed - he would already be signed. (In my opinion) I think the biggest concern isn't his injury history (See: Burnett) - but rather his current injury. I suspect he has significant rehabilitation before he can pitch. Maybe Sheets was hoping some team wouldn't mind him missing the first month of the season and offer him a long term contract.
  16. That is also available on iTunes for $1.99. (It isn't in HD - so the quality certainly leaves something to be desired) But overall, I am very happy to have that game on DVD. It might be because it is pretty bad. Watching the highlights on Brewers.com for half an hour is much more exciting. Most of the 30 minutes is made up of interviews from Dennis Krause, The Doorman, Brian Anderson and other writers. I thought they ignored most of the highlights. It's better than nothing - but I certainly wouldn't be concerned if you are unable to obtain a copy.
  17. He throws so slowly that he is almost like a knuckleball pitcher. I doubt there is much wear and tear on his body. I did not like seeing that in writting.
  18. If Mike Cameron played another year for the Brewers - is it possible that he might be a Type A free agent after this season? (Or even a B?)
  19. Great post Rock! Colby brings up a point that I think many Brewer fans are forgetting. Two years ago, on Christmas the Brewers were able to convince an old average pitcher to come to Milwaukee for a ton of money. At that point, we couldn't believe a major free agent would come to Milwaukee. Last year, Curt Schilling mentioned Milwaukee as one of like 12 teams he would consider playing for. And as a Brewer fan - you felt honored that players would even consider Milwaukee. This year, we are terrified that Melvin might try to sign Garland. Milwaukee might never be able to sign prize free agents. And if they do, they will likely have to overpay. I agree with the similarities between 1992/1993. But I also don't think there is anything you can do about it - hence you repeat the cycle. (Build your talent from the inside and hold them as long as you can)
  20. Seems like everyone just forgot about Juan Cruz.
  21. If you combine them into 127 at bats - it is a bigger sample. I don't think any major league team wants a 1B starting on opening day who put up a sub .600 OPS in 1/4 of a minor league season. Also, if you look in the minor league thread - Chris Bosio talks about how Brantley might be the better prospect as LaPorta has holes in his swing. (ala Nelson Cruz)
  22. Hello Jorge De La Rosa!
  23. And still get swept in the first round of the playoffs! Seriously, this rumor has been out there for about a week now. His bat makes sense - but he is pretty bad defensively. The biggest problem, as I see it, is that they were unable to add Peavy without dumping Marquis' salary first. How are they going to add Bradley at approximately $10 million and not drop someone else's salary?
  24. That is pretty debatable. After his trade to Cleveland he posted a .649 OPS. In the Winter League he put up a .549 OPS.
