  1. I think that you need to sign autographs and be fan friendly in general until you experience some success at the MLB level. I realize that at some point, the demands are too much and you just want to be left alone. But when you are in AA - you need to be more fan friendly. I am really shocked that Buck even mentioned those things. While I don't doubt they are true, he must have really disliked Matt to throw him under the bus. It certainly makes me like the trade even more. (And to think, my biggest concerns about Matt were the holes in his swing!)
  2. But he walks a lot more batters than Shouse. Shouse BB/9 = 2.45 Stetter BB/9 = 6.75 Stetter has better stuff - but also can leave a mess for someone to clean up. The reason Shouse got hit more often was that he could throw strikes.
  3. They have their entire nucleus on long term deals - with most of them overpaid. They have (well, assuming they sign Bradley - which appears to be the case) two major players with significant injury histories. (Bradley and Harden) And they have a combustible clubhouse with Soriano, Zambrano, Bradley etc. That is a perfect recipe for an October disaster. DeRosa was the type of player who held the Cubs together. On that team, I think DeRosa is more valuable than Bradley. Everyone can forget about the Peavy trade talks. It sounds like the Cubs have turned their attention 100% to Bradley. That will eliminate any real chance of adding Peavy's contract.
  4. Melvin is a pretty big believer that relievers alternate good and bad years. (Torres was coming off a bad year - and had a good year. Etc) Melvin does not like to overpay for relief pitchers coming off very good years. So the lack of movement in that area is not surprising. Well said. But I think Stetter > Shouse is a bit of a reach. And I am a big Stetter fan. Shouse has always been very good for Milwaukee. I am not sure what you are upset about then. I think that Brewers have taken that attitude to some extent. They certainly haven't done anything to jepordize the 2010 season thus far. (Handing out bad contracts) I would imagine the Brewers are going to see if they can tread water this year. They can wait and see how the MLB team plays. Wait and see how a few prospects grow. (Salome/Lucroy/Lawrie in particular) And if the Brewers are in the race they can make trades during the season to improve the MLB club.
  5. Boras has got to be hating this leak. Boras always keeps his offers silent so that he can pretend to have HUGE offers from several teams. This drives up the price for his players. (Think about Tex. Boras tells everyone he is looking for huge dollars. The only numbers that ever really "float" around are the huge contract numbers that Boras leaks. All of a sudden, everyone assumes that is the going rate. Then Boras tells the Yankees, for X dollars you can have him. The Yankees assume everyone else has made a simliar offer - so they do too.) I'm sure Boras was telling everyone that Lowe had some really big offers and was looking at 5/90 million. So, the Mets didn't want to get caught up in that game and leaked their own numbers. Now all of a sudden people think Lowe is worth 3/36 million instead of 90M. However, when a Boras client doesn't get the numbers he wants - he usually signs a really short 1 or 2 year deal for a higher rate. (Gagne & A. Jones last year. Likely Manny this year.) I wonder if Lowe maybe signs a 1 year $15 deal somewhere.
  6. I think it was Ennder who explained the CC situation the best. CC was a player considered outside of the realm of payroll. He was the one player that Mark A (And Doug) could splurge on because he was a sign of the Milwaukee Brewers dedication to building a long term champion. A real commitment to winning. CC alone would have greatly increased attendance and merchandise sales. He was the Milwaukee Brewer version of Ichiro. Lowe would make the Brewers better. However, CC would make the Brewers legitimate in the minds of casual baseball fans.
  7. Nolan Ryan throwback for $23.50 Utley for $21.50 Jose Reyes for $21.15 Russell Martin for $21.15
  8. Just got a Hardy Youth Small for the wife - $14.10 And a large Prince for myself - $21.20 Free shipping because it was over $25. Two jerseys - total of $35.30.
  9. If the Brewers place a sub-.300 OBP at first base I will cry. I am pretty sure Hart would have negative value as a 1B. Hart would likely be a better offensive player - but Prince is twice the offensive force.
  10. I have an uncle who looks like Uecker. He has signed quite a few autographs in his day.
  11. I understand your point - but ignoring 18 years of lifestyle changes in America kinda makes this stat moot. I understand that the NFL has increased in popularity substantially in the past 20 years. But you really can't just say parity in the NFL = better ratings. That is obviously an overly simplistic viewpoint. You have no way of knowing what the NFL would be like without parity, perhaps ratings would be twice as good. And I don't see much parity in the NFL. I see lots of luck that evens the competitive field from year to year. This year there were 8 really, really bad teams. That isn't parity.
  12. Saw Momma Mia. Pierce Brosnan sings. He shouldn't. The entire movie shouldn't. And I like musicals.
  13. I think Dusty Baker infests those around him. That said, Tavares is an improvement over Corey Patterson. So he's got that going for him - which is nice.
  14. I would imagine Milwaukee would have had to offer around $12M to even be in the conversation. If Zito were even decent, San Francisco would have a heck of a rotation. (Lincecum, Cain, Johnson, Sanchez, Zito) Better yet, imagine if Zito were as good as the money is he being paid!
  15. I know we are all disappointed that the 1st round compensation picks are not looking very likely. But JJ Hardy and Yovani Gallardo were both 2nd round picks. So, we have definitely gotten some great players from the second round.
  16. I've been debating this for years with my wife. (Obviously I am losing) She thinks Walgreens is great because they give away like 3-5 free products (after rebate) each month. So every single month my wife goes and gets all of the "free" items - fills out the rebate form, and get her rebate in the mail. The problem is, she always buys other overpriced crap while she shops for the "free" items. Did I mention that we have about 100 toothbrushes in the basement right now and 25 bottles of shampoo? If you don't need the free stuff - it is garbage!
  17. I actually disagree 100%. The Yankees draw huge television ratings. So do the Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers etc. Television ratings for the World Series are much better with the Yankees v Cubs instead of Brewers v Rays. Because of the Yankee's drunken spending, teams like the Brewers are able to get additional draft picks and revenue sharing. In addition, I enjoy the underdog role versus the evil empires that only happens in baseball. (Toppling dynasties is more exciting than parity, in my opinion)

  20. The best places.... Kohl's family sections at Miller Park!
  21. Neither does Milwaukee. (And if you counter that the Brewers could sign Adam Dunn to play 1B - I am going to point out that so could the Angels without giving up Santana) edit: Rockco beat me to it!
  22. I fixed it for you. A-Rod had to go around Boras' back because Boras was ignoring A-Rod desire to play in New York. I believe Kenny Rogers fired Boras because Boras tried selling Rogers to every team but the Tigers - when all Kenny wanted was to play for the Detroit Tigers. Boras cares more about the dollar amounts than his players happiness. Nothing wrong with getting paid, but Boras' methods are certainly questionable.
  23. Kramnoj - I think I've clearly laid out all my reasoning. I am not interested in having a conversation that just results in a "what are basing that on" every time I explain what I have just based my opinion on. I believe we are just going in circles at this point.
