  1. Very pleasant surprise. I was trying to figure out if the Brewers had any other Errecart in the system.
  2. Per SI Yankees gave up Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendort and two other minor league prospects
  3. With how Sabathia is pitching, that is almost debatable. But Gallardo as the #2 for the first time in the playoffs <<<< Sabathia with playoff experience.
  4. Braun should have at least hit it a little harder to watch it that long. That ball didn't make it over the wall by too much.
  5. On May 1st Yovani Gallardo pitched a gem of a game and beat the Cub's. The next day we learned he had torn his ACL and was lost for the season. That day was by far the worst day this year as a Brewer fan. We had just come up with a huge 4-3 victory against the Cubs. And we had just avoided what appeared to be a major injury - only to end up a major injury. I was 100% sure our season was over. 100%. In retrospect, aren't the Brewers better without him? If he doesn't get hurt, I doubt we trade Matt LaPorta for CC Sabathia. Sheets and Gallardo might have lead us to the playoffs, but Sabathia and Sheets seem much more likely to lead to a championship. Its amazing how these things seem to work out. The worst day of the season - might end up saving the season. (Honorable mention for Russell Branyan's call-up. He has been horrible for a few weeks now - but he really sparked the Brewers back into contention)
  6. Well - I mean, obviously I have no proof to back that up! I'll be quick so we can revert back to the main topic. The 2002 Academy Awards dealt largely with race. Both Denzel and Halle Berry won for best actor and actress. Halle's speech was based on her race. And it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened. Thank you. I'm so honored. I'm so honored. And I thank the Academy for choosing me to be the vessel for which His blessing might flow. Thank you. Denzel also made a point to reference Sidney during his speech. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. Forty years I've been chasin' Sidney. They finally give it to me and what'd they do? They give it to him the same night. I'll always be chasing you, Sidney. I'll always be following in your footsteps. They both received rousing ovations that were certainly different than those normally received. (Presumably because they were recognizing the achievements that African Americans had made in motion pictures) I thought Sean Penn and Russell Crowe both had a much better chance of winning for their respective roles. My point is that the evening seemed to have a "theme" and favored black actor/actresses. I would not be surprised if Heath Ledger received similar treatment (favoritism) on account of his untimely death.
  7. Any word on when Chris Errecart will return to Huntsville's lineup?
  8. I understand Corey is slumping. But his .324 OBP is the product of the entire season. (Which, has been an all-star season.) I am not sure he will ever consistantly put up a .340 or .350 OBP.
  9. I am starting to wonder about Hart's long term success. I've always argued that I don't worry too much about Braun's OBP - as his slugging compensates so nicely. Hart also has a poor OBP - but he isn't ever going to slug .600. Plus, even in a small sample size - Hart is batting under .150 with bases loaded in his career?!?
  10. Hart is just bad right now. I can't imagine how much worse of a game he could be playing.
  11. Denzel won the Academy Award because he was black. So the Academy has shown a propensity to give awards based on sentiment. (Denzel's was basically an apology for all the quality black actors they had overlooked) TLB - do you honestly believe there would be this much buzz about Ledger if he wasn't dead? It has clearly been a huge source of publicity for the film. Let's face it, Heath Ledger's death was a huge media event. And the praises have been excessive. This was not epic. It was not transcendent. But it was really good. Here are some Brewerfan.net quotes... "Transcendent." "Absolutely perfect." "AWESOME" "Absolutely amazing!" "masterful performance" "Ledger as Joker = Best comic book villain ever. Period." "totally outstanding" "transcendent performance" He was good. But those are some pretty lofty words. Perhaps the reason he is receiving so much attention is that he played such a quality role in a summer blockbuster. That is pretty unusual.
  12. He'd fit pretty nicely next year if both Sheets and CC leave. (And Seattle pays half of his contract)
  13. The whispers just won't go away. Halladay is apparently unhappy in Toronto and has let management know it, and management has apparently responded by doing some quiet surveying of teams (such as St. Louis and the Dodgers) that are far, far away from the AL East in an effort to see what it could get for the 2003 Cy Young Award winner. Apparently, the returns other teams are getting for top-talent pitchers such as C.C. Sabathia, Rich Harden and Erik Bedard has inspired the Blue Jays to at least find out what it could get for one of the best pitchers in the American League. It remains unlikely that they'd deal him, but you never know. Newark Star-Ledger I can't believe he might be available. I would assume at least one of Escobar or Gamel plus Jeffress or Braddock. I would certainly like to see the Brewer's get involved if he is being shopped.
  14. I realize Prince had two strikes - but Braun had also just jacked a HR. That HR kinda (hopefully) put the game out of reach. Hence, they just plunked him anyways.
  15. I don't think they were trying to hit Kendall or Prince the 1st time. This one wasn't even close. He missed the plate by 2+ feet.
  16. I have to work. But for Pedro's tickets to a Cub/Brewers game - Count me in! (Guess I'll just be sick that day) Pedro rules.
  17. He had some scenes where he stole the entire scene. But he just wasn't that dominant figure the entire time for me. His scene towards the end - when he is caught I found unimpressive. In addition, part of the problem goes back to Forrest Gump. Honestly, playing a mentally challenged person in a movie isn't that hard of a role because it is so removed from any realistic basis with which to judge it against. For awhile the Academy seemed like they would throw Oscars at the characters instead of the actors. The Joker was a great character. But was the acting great? I just don't think playing a psychotic killer is that difficult of a role to play. (Of course, you could argue that Bale apparently has a really hard time playing the counter role!)
  18. At spring training my father bought 4 tickets at the senior price. My wife and I got in no problem. (For the record, we weren't trying to get in at a discount. My father just went and purchased 4 tickets and since he has long been a senior citizen - they just gave him the discount without asking who was going to be using them.) I would assume it would be the same for yourself.
  19. It was a good movie. It was not the amazing achievement in film some would have you believe. Heath Ledger was good as the Joker. But the "Oscar buzz" is based mostly on his untimely death. Harvey Dent was great for the first half of the movie. The second half was forced and a pretty ridiculous. I missed Katie Holmes. I never got any chemistry between Maggie Gyllenhaal and the other actors. Christian Bale was better in Newsies. His over the top gruffness while playing Batman gets annoying. I was really sick of listening to him talk. Just once I want to see a summer blockbuster/action movie that doesn't have a 1/2 hour car chase. At times I felt the movie tried to push to another level by really dealing with the good versus evil struggle in everyone. That never worked for me. I thought the Joker was a better villain as a crazy killer with no explanations.
  20. I didn't know Samardzija had turned a corner. Last time I looked he was struggling at AA and got an unusual promotion to AAA. Since then, he looks pretty good. Hopefully Zarraga is alright. He had 6 of the 7 total bases today.
  21. No - he can't. But if they really have their sights set on Salome, they need to give up way more than Durham and average relief pitching. Salome, Weeks, and Jeffress for Cain would seem pretty fair to me.
