  1. Say what you will about the Brewers proposal, but the Bucks deal is objectively really anything but a boondoggle. The majority of the arena is financed with revenues from an existing sales tax on rental cars, hotels, etc. The state’s portion is partially offset by an arena ticket tax and is way less than the income tax generated by the players. The city’s portion is paid via TIF and the county’s is a small reduction in shared revenue. It has absolutely nothing to do with the MPS referendum or the sales taxes recently approved. Both of those things would have happened, even if the Bucks had left.
  2. Yep, this will pass the Assembly on Tuesday. But it still needs to get through the Senate, too. They might want tweaks, which means it’ll require another vote in the Assembly. It might be a little while.
  3. Spare me. It’s a playoff game. Most people in the park didn’t know it was concussion-related. Plus, if we need a 6 minute injury delay, he should have probably been pulled from the game.
  4. They’re in deep, deep trouble, but the offense was never going to be good enough to spark a deep run. Tonight isn’t the best example of that because they had some genuinely bad luck. This offense puts so much stress on the pitching staff by leaving it so little margin for error and that is amplified in a short playoff series
  5. Advanced listings have two evening games on both days, each starting at 6 pm CT, one on ESPN, the other on ESPN2
  6. Probably in the minority here, but I’m not terribly concerned about winning the division, especially if it results in 2-3 Wild Card games at home against the Cubs.
  7. The Bucks have absolutely nothing to do with this. Their stadium debate was over 8 years ago, and I haven’t heard anybody griping about the financing package since it was signed into law. It will not be a factor in any of the current debates about stadium financing. If this runs longer than, say, November, the Brewers need to seriously considering onboarding somebody stronger than Rick Schlesinger to shepherd this thing through to the end.
  8. I can’t see the players union ever endorsing a team playing full-time in Mexico. Also … what does a local media deal look like with a Mexican team?
  9. The quality of the food is better at both other pro sports venues in this state. I’m not looking for 5-star quality … I want a couple of stands with fresh grilled sausage with onions/peppers (which is standard at other parks). I also want them to stop putting cold shredded cheese on top of a $14-$20 nacho bowl.
  10. This is a sign that the attendance is going to be down significantly this season
  11. Exactly. The high cost of concessions is the reality at sporting events everywhere. The quality of the product, compared to other parks, is the issue in Milwaukee. It’s embarrassingly poor. I have no idea who is giving the food high marks. It’s telling that local restaurants - Zaffiros, Smoke Shack, AJ Bombers, etc . have come and gone. I can’t believe the Black Shoe Restaurant group is OK with the way Delaware North is butchering their product at the stadium. I also found it interesting that the recent report detailing the needed repairs at the stadium basically indicated that tap beer lines would not be replaced implying that younger guests prefer canned beer - I don’t think this is true and it’s yet another example of the organization dropping the ball at improving/maintaining the guest experience
  12. Bottled water was $7.39 for a majority of the 2022 season. Then they cut the price by $2 in August after they were unrelentingly shamed on Twitter for months. Schlesinger and the Brewers should be embarrassed by the quality/cost of the concessions at the park during the past two years.
  13. An advantage of this proposal is that the state could avoid bonding/interest payments. One way or another, public money will be involved at some point. If that doesn’t happen now, it’s probably financed through bonding somewhere down the line.
  14. The experience at the ballpark has fallen off significantly in the past 4-5 years - and the decline in the quality of the food (considering the prices) has been stark. For example, they were charging $11+ for a nacho bowl topped with cold shredded cheese last year. I think this underscores much of the derision on Twitter and other places about X-Golf. Hoping the organization notices what’s happened and we see some changes in April because it was embarrassing last season. Until then, save your money and eat somewhere else before the game.
  15. Phillies and Nationals split DH has been moved up to Friday
  16. Oh well, at least we have X-Golf at the park now
  17. It’s not reasonably possible. There’s like 1 percent chance the Brewers win the division, it’s not even worth contemplating

  19. I don’t think the problem is Sophia, it’s the rest of the Milwaukee media who is either too lazy to ask probing, interesting questions (or afraid of losing access).
  20. San Diego owns the tiebreaker so they will be functionally 3 or 4 GB. A tie does literally nothing for the Brewers at year-end.
  21. Of course he won’t be fired. But I think there’s an argument that he should be.
  22. It’s time to start having a serious conversation about whether Counsell should return next year.
  23. My guess is that Allen has a noncompete that will require him to sit out for awhile.
