  1. I just heard on ESPN that the Nationals are interested in hiring Randolph for a coaching position under Manny Acta. So, right now, it looks like we may be in the clear.
  2. 1.) I want to see what happens to Rickie Weeks -- I wouldn't mind him in CF. 2.) Will there be a new SP joining the staff? 3.) The continuation of a baseball renaissance in Milwaukee. 4.) Potentially monitoring Ned Yost's next job. I enjoy the breather during November and December. By New Year's, I'm ready for some baseball.
  3. Ryan Braun's walk-off GS, with Brian Anderson's call, was just featured on the iPod 3G commercial during the NLCS broadcast on FOX.
  4. A full year of Gwynn as a starter would be downright maddening. The combination of a pedestrian OBP and absolutely no SLG (maybe one HR all season?) would get old very quickly.
  5. I'm tired of all the endorsements Sveum is receiving, the latest from Terry Francona Amen. His line of thinking: They were pretty bad when they played us, then they were insanely awesome over the summer, then they tanked in early September. But, Sveum managed to dig them out of that hole and send them to the playoffs! Everyone who follows the Brewers know that what transpired the last week of the season has as much to do with the Brewers' performance as it does with the choking of the Mets and the complete ineptness of the Pirates. A guy like Francona doesn't have the time to follow the Brewers. He probably knows about our solid record and that CC Sabathia has set the world on fire while playing for the Brewers. Kudos to Dale for the changes he made to the pitching staff (before October 5), but his mediocre performance over 16 games shouldn't be enough to hand him the job.
  6. Anyone know of a good one in the Appleton area? We did the train one in green bay last year. Not that scary I'll find the name later, but I went to one in Neenah last October. It's right off of Hwy. 41. Pretty scary, and there's a coffin you can go into while your friends watch. They also have some delicious mini donuts.
  7. Ok so I watched the entire game and the post game and nobody has mentioned the freakin thumb Buck and McCarver are pretty awful announcers. It doesn't surprise me a bit. Go Dodgers. I just can't stomach cheering for a Philadelphia team. Haven't done it since Super Bowl XXXIX.
  8. As for Suppan starting game 4, it was the right choice, injured or ineffective or not. Gallardo on short rest was a recipe for disaster. You dont bring a 22 year old kid, who has only pitched once since coming back from surgery less than 6 months prior, to pitch in that situation Suppan has pitched like he's been hurt all of September. His start on September 26 was shaky, too. Yo did have some trouble throwing strikes on Wednesday, but the defense buckled in the only inning that he did give up runs. Jeff Suppan has throwing meatballs since September 4. I think you have to roll the dice and start Gallardo. His performance later in game 4 is completely out of context...Phillies had the game in hand already...they were approaching the rest of the game cautiously...same goes for Parra. I disagree. Baseball isn't like football where there is garbage time and players are "running through the motions." There's no doubt that the Phillies hitters had the same mentality against Suppan as they did against Gallardo -- they're trying to get on base. But, I do agree that Sveum played no part in getting the Brewers to the playoffs. I like the way he shuffled the rotation, but that's about it.
  9. I read on 2 different sites already that CC was rumored to be at the Bucks preseason game tonight in one of the luxury boxes (obviously likely 99% untrue). Wow, that sounds really interesting. It's probably just something to do. But I'm surprised he's still in town.
  10. Exactly, homer. I was begging for Shouse to pitch to Howard. The AB to Howard in the 9th was a situation screaming for the LOOGY. But, you know the reason Torres pitched the 9th was because he was closer and his job is to get the final three outs! Torres narrowly averted disaster -- the Pedro Feliz DP ball to Bill Hall was a hard hit ball. Then, the whole starting Suppan over an available Gallardo was a HUGE blunder. Sveum made two egrigious errors this weekend. I seriously want an explanation from the organization as to why Suppan was chosen over Gallardo. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we made the playoffs, but Dale Sveum cannot be invited back.
  11. The very first inning people were telling people to sit down. It got pretty ugly eventually, with ushers, cops, and fans. Were the majority of the people in your section standing? If not, you'd think that minority would just go with the flow and stand up, as it's probably not worth their time to get the freakin police involved. I can't stand it when people gripe about the crowd on its feet.
  12. It's been a fantastic season. We made the playoffs, and maybe, just maybe, if the chips fall in the right places and Ben Sheets doesn't get hurt, we make a run at the World Series. But, we gave a good team a run for its money in the League Division Series. I can be proud of our accomplishments. I've enjoyed countless memories from this season -- from my first game of the season in Phoenix on Easter Sunday (hey, Rickie Weeks hit a three-run homer!) to this afternoon. By the way, I appreciate the way everybody cheered after the final out this afternoon. I know I was cheering for the Brewers, as well as congratulating the Phillies on their accomplishments. Let's hope this is just the beginning of quality baseball in Milwaukee. And remember, the fans of the Royals and Pirates are looking at our Brewers thinking, "Hey, if they can do it, we can do it, too." Although I'm sad that the season has ended, I'm looking forward to getting a breather, and coming back in February (hey, only a little over 4 months!) totally refreshed. Thank you, Bud, Mark A, and George Petak. Wisconsin deserves a team like the Brewers.
  13. I hope they take the whole thing, too. I can't really complain about either of the teams in the NLCS, but I'd prefer to see a World Series in a cold-weather city. Plus, it's about time for Philadelphia to win a title. My ideal World Series is Rays vs. Phillies, although I have qualms about the pit known as Tropicana Field hosting a World Series game.
  14. http://www.baseball-refer...es/SLN/SLN200610140.shtml http://www.baseball-refer...es/NYN/NYN200610190.shtml If Jeff Suppan makes that happen, I'll be a very happy man. I cannot believe he is capable of pitching that well.
  15. A win tomorrow would make this SO MUCH sweeter. IMO, there's no doubt they choked. They had the best team in baseball, three of baseball's best SP the past three games, and they were outscored 20-6. I don't think anyone could have forseen the way Zambrano and Harden pitched, but you could see the offense slumping. The starters scored only 2 runs in Milwaukee last weekend. There's no way around it -- the Cubs played horribly this series. It'll be either the Brewers, Phillies, or Dodgers in the World Series. That sounds so sweet to say.
  16. That may be the last time we see Fukudome in an Cubs uniform. I seriously wonder if he'll be back in Japan next season. I stand to make serious $$ if there is a Game 5 at Wrigley, but this is a fantastic feeling. It's not gonna happen!!!
  17. This is awesome. If the Dodgers win, can we undoubtedly say that the Brewers had a better season than the Cubs?
  18. The crowd was awesome. Very loud, basically standing the entire game. Raucous in the concourse following the game. If we pull this off, Miller Park is going to be something else.
  19. FYI, the Brewers are distributing a voucher for a DVD documenting the 2008 season at tomorrow's game. Don't have a link, but I read the story on my phone.
  20. I was at FanZone at about 4pm today and I saw the Brewers taking batting practice. I'd just assume the roster introductions for the Brewers and the Phillies. I'd think it would be a lot like Opening Day ... but way more awesome.
  21. A playoff game is a bigger deal, but in Wisconsin, people care what the Packers are doing. For sure, but this is MLB/TBS's decision. I don't know why they can't have games on Saturday afternoon instead of competing with the NFL, but that's just me.
  22. I don't think it's a big deal that the games would be conflicted. Last Sunday, practically nobody cared that the Packers were playing. It's not like they're going to have trouble selling out Miller Park. An MLB postseason game in Milwaukee is a bigger deal than a regular season Packer game against a crappy Atlanta team. I don't think MLB is really concerned about the NFL schedule This time of the year, it's the other way around. There's no Sunday Night game conflicting with the World Series, and they learned their lesson from last year's Monday night game during the World Series in Denver. Notice that the MNF game on Oct. 27 is Indianapolis vs. Jacksonville. From now on, that game will include two NFL teams from cities without baseball teams.
  23. Lovely, start the game the same time as the Packers game. Morons. That's MLB's call. I don't know why a Philadelphia-Milwaukee series is less attractive than a Tampa Bay-Chicago series. I'm surprised the game isn't at 3.
  24. It's my first time ever starting a game thread, hopefully it ends well for the Brewers. If they win tomorrow, I think you should start the game thread on Sunday. Can't hurt, can it?
  25. 17.57% -- that's what Baseball Prospectus says. I don't believe it's ever been done in the NLDS before. With Dave Bush and Jeff Suppan on the mound the next two days ... yikes. Let's focus on game 3; if the bats can get going, then I'll feel better about our chances of taking this series back to Philadelphia.
