  1. The Padres gave $140 million to Eric Hosmer. Just a really dumb move.
  2. I wouldn't waste a 40 man spot on an almost 30 year old career minor leaguer.
  3. I strongly disagreed with the Yelich trade but at least he's signed long term through his prime and you could argue that even if the team "isn't ready" this year, they will be when Yelich is still in his prime and still has term on his contract. Cain's signing signals that you want to win now because you're going to be lucky if you get three years before the contract goes south at which point you will not only have a declining player on your roster but also a player that won't be close to worth his salary which could prevent other moves that could help. So strongly disagree with the Yelich trade but understand it. Have no clue why they signed Cain if they just planned on not adding anything else significant after him.
  4. The idea that you're going to stop tanking is dumb. What happens if the say 13th or 14th worst team decides to tank the last couple of weeks before the trade deadline to fall in the bottom 8? Now you're going to have a team that's better than the worst team and probably far better having the inside track to the #1 pick. Those bad teams are still going to be bad but now all you've done is keep the bad teams bad and allow the mediocre teams the opportunity to be bad for a few weeks to steal the top picks.
  5. Seattle just sold 25,000 season ticket deposits in one hour. In the words of Ilya Bryzgalov, that is humongous big. http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2018/03/01/nhl-seattle-season-ticket-drive-reaches-25k-sold-in-one-hour/
  6. Why would Stearns inform Braun about any of the plans? He was deputy GM under Melvin.
  7. Sir, the possibility of adding Alex Cobb as a free agent is approximately 20%. Never tell me the odds.
  8. Why does Stone taking checks from an agency, that wanted to sign him to become a client of theirs once he went pro, have anything to do with him deciding Maryland over Wisconsin? I don't know the situation with stone but some agents and AAU coaches steer kids toward certain schools with certain apparel deals. Now Maryland and Wisconsin are both Under Armour schools so I doubt that was the reason in Stone's case bit it probably happened for at least some players.
  9. Okay I think the Badgers are done now. Only chance is sweeping the Big Ten Tournament.
  10. Sophia: How fun is it to play the sport that you like?
  11. Stoneman Douglas And will somebody punch this screeching woman or at least tell her to knock it off?
  12. This isn't that big of an upset.
  13. "Backing up Santana. And that's going to fall in front of him. Wow, okay."
  14. Dara Lind summed up my feelings on this pretty well.
  15. Houser just turned 25 a few weeks ago. This is what Law said about him when he saw him in the AFL this winter.
  16. Yeah, they wait until after the trade deadline, so sometime in August.
  17. Pretty much everyone has been saying how good Houser has looked since he came back. I haven't seen him but I understand the ranking based on what others have seen.
  18. I think it's probably to just give the kids something different/they take whatever early season type tournament that will take them. Of course it really didn't make sense for them to do it the last two years and I think they finally realized that. Last year they started the season in the Houston area, flew to Phoenix for the sole purpose of playing an exhibition game against the Brewers and then had to be in Central Florida for a game less than two days later. The year before they were in Lubbock for a series against Texas Tech, flew to Central Florida for an Invitational, flew to Phoenix for one game against the Brewers and then had to be in Eastern Arkansas two days later for a series against Arkansas State. That costs a lot of money and isn't worth the cost. It really only makes sense if they're in Arizona for a Classic/Invitational/Tournament/Series or maybe if they're in Southern California or Vegas or something and can make a quick, cheap flight to Phoenix.
  19. Exactly.
  20. And every other team could say the same thing too.
  21. You guys. YOU GUYS! https://twitter.com/AudienceSports/status/966573052858220544
  22. I don't think any team is going to be impressed with a 27/28 year old hitting in Colorado Springs for a few months when they have 700 plate appearances of major league data and saw him regress across the board last year.
  23. My thoughts. Owners can do whatever they want in regards to their team. They should also own that. If you don't trust the guy you hired to make decisions, then get rid of him. If you want to run the team, then do it and take all the accolades and criticism that comes with that. That's the only reason I respect Jerry Jones. He runs his team, everyone knows he runs his team, he answers to the media.
  24. The difference is we do *one hundred and sixty two* games, half of the year. I like acting like a vegetable as much as anyone on the couch but at some point things have to get done. People don't have time to sit 3 hours a day watching these guys stand around and occasionally run to a fly ball like we used to But people have 2 hours and 50 minutes to do this?
