  1. New quotes from Melvin. Link
  2. I'd take Blanco and Rivera for a year. No need to rush the kids.
  3. I'm not really sure what to think. He's heading into his second arbitration year, I really like the arms that we're giving up and Nolasco did come off a 5 ERA (I agree he was unlucky this year, but I don't know how much into sabermetrics the Marlins staff is, so I don't know if they thought he was terrible or unlucky). I'm just not sure about the deal, that probably means it's fair, I just don't know if giving up prospects is the right way to go right now.
  4. Sounds like a cool dude. I always liked Spivey.
  5. Watched parts of the game, but it was borderline unwatchable with the Goofer announcers, so I had it on mute. I think the first goal given up by Bennett was about as weak as it gets. When a guy is coming in on that angle and you have a defender back to seal off the backside, you can take a sharp angle to stop the guy with the puck. He didn't do that, stayed back and gave up what should have been an easy save. Didn't see their second goal, I believe the third goal was a screen job that he had little chance of stopping and I don't remember the fourth goal either.
  6. Like I said before, it depends on what pitching they get. If they spend that money on guys like Washburn and Davis, I think the team downgraded. If they get a Lackey or a Harden or someone like that, a guy who's already good or has been very good, then I can understand it and I'd be okay with it.
  7. That would be way overpaying for a one year rental, imo.
  8. Umm, Gomez is a career .246 hitter (close enough to .250) and has 12 triples in 1,017 career at bats. So no, he won't have 15 triples in 500 at bats. And yes, there is a huge difference in the offense of Cameron and Gomez.
  9. Saw the very end of the game on FS North. Man those Minnesota announcers are incredible homers. Recorded the whole game on MPTV, have yet to watch it. Really wish the Badgers would still be on FS Wisconsin.
  10. I wouldn't want Olivo anyways. Career .278 OBP and only twice in his 10 year career has his OBP been over .300. Yuck. With Gomez, we're going to need some OBP.
  11. You missed Wooten pitching a scoreless inning with two K's. Edit: Braddock was also 93-95 consistently tonight.
  12. I feel the same way about Gomez.
  13. Link Even though I'm not a huge fan of Bowden, I would've taken him over Gomez.
  14. The Brewers weren't lacking speed before Gomez either. With Weeks and Escobar they had two potential 30 base stealers and Braun and Hart are potential 20 base stealers.
  15. Gomez has a long way to go before he can be considered a solid hitter anywhere in the lineup.
  16. The real problem is he doesn't have a lot of power and has a groundball rate about the league average.
  17. And that's a pretty big problem to me. I'll give Melvin a chance to see what he does with the pitching, but given his track record in that department, needless to say, I'm not optimistic about it.
  18. I don't know how much he cost for what he played, but I'm guessing the total was around $750,000 considering his buyout, his salary for playing and the cash we sent to the Reds. Once again, that's just lighting $750,000 on fire imo.
  19. That's a little ridiculous since there is a huge debate as to whether Gomez should actually be starting or whether he should be in the minors or a 4th or 5th outfielder.
  20. I definitely would've taken Harang over Gomez. ESPNEWS on the trade. "Brewers trade SS J.J. Hardy to the Twins for Chris Gomez." Yeah, so bad they don't even know his name.
  21. How can you say it didn't cost anything? It cost them money, that's definitely something and it's definitely something that could be better used than on a bad, old reliever.
  22. Melvin said he was talking with six or seven teams and was saying I need pitching or a CF. I'd really like to hear what pitchers he was offered, because I have a hard time imagining the pitchers being offered being worse than Gomez.
  23. It actually is because he hasn't shown he can be a good player in the majors. Now if he proves this year that he can be good, then people will stop saying he sucks. Right now though, the only thing he's ever done in the majors is suck.
  24. So does performance and Gomez' performance indicates that he's a player who shouldn't be in the majors or at the very least not starting, yet he's going to be starting for us. That's a problem.
