  1. Wondering if anyone here is a karaoke fan? If so, what song(s) do you like to sing? My favorite is "Faithfully" by Journey. I know that isn't great tunage, but you have to be a giver when you do karaoke.
  2. You can gamble in Minnesota at 18.
  3. "Surly only looks out for one guy and that's Surly." "Oh, sorry, Surly." "Shut up."

  5. My fiancee surprised me with a pocket PC that has GPS for golf course yardages. Also got some sweet clothes and a GC to Dunham's Sports for a new set of golf clubs this spring. Got to see most of the family and I spent a bunch of time (though not enough) with my parents and brothers.
  6. Also a lefty pitcher. In high school (8-10 years ago) I threw my fastball in the mid to upper 70s. I had kind of a 3/4 to 7/8 arm slot which gave me a little movement away from righties and in to lefties. However, my best pitch was the curveball. I threw it about as much as I threw my fastball. It broke from 11 to 5 most of the time and I had better command with the curve than my fastball. I once got into a 3-0 count with three fastballs so I threw three curves in a row to strike the batter out. The umpire told me after the game he'd never seen a pitcher throw a curveball on 3-0. Lefties had no chance against me, don't think I ever allowed a hit http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif If I got my arm warmed up now I would probably sit in the low 80s. I'm planning to get back into some amateur baseball this upcoming summer if I have time.
  7. Then again, a health Corey Koskie probably means no Russell Branyan. And maybe another year of Bill Hall in CF and no Mike Cameron. I fully agree with your point, though, having Koskie around would've been excellent. He was a top flight 3B if you include his defense.
  8. You don't get comp picks if Johnson retires, which IMO is likely once he gets his 300th win.
  9. If you're going to have Cameron on the Brewers for 2009, you only trade him if we are completely out of the playoff race by the trade deadline. I agree he is completely valuable at 10 mil for 2009 but it isn't at all definite that you trade him at the deadline this season. JBriggs, what's the difference between losing 70 or 80 in 2009 if you're better off for 2010?
  10. Good. Way to stick it to the Yanks Doug. They, Cashman and Yanks fans, thought that they had more leverage than they did. We aren't that desperate to cut payroll. Melvin can still make a prospect package deal for some SP help.
  11. I thought I'd be more interested in Wigginton, but now I don't know about him, he kinda feasts on LHP, his splits against RH pitching aren't that much better than Lamb's and if his defense is that bad, I'd rather just stick with Lamb/Hall. If Hall is traded to the Yanks, however, I could see how Wiggy would make sense.
  12. No but the fans are more apt to be happy with his performance instead waiting to jump all over him if he gets injured.
  13. Your worst fears were realized by most of us about 3/4 the way through the 2008 season.
  14. I love how all these sources are not identified but are very close to whomever is important.
  15. Who knows though, it could help Hall more than it did Kendall, plus Kendall could've been helped by Lasik and regressed due to age. Hall seemed to have more trouble the last couple seasons seeing that ball on the outside corner. I wouldn't bank on this making a significant difference though.
  16. We should all drive bumper cars around instead of real ones. That way, my SO and I would have two cars right now instead of one.
  17. Very cool interview, thanks splitter.
  18. It started for me around 1987. We didn't get the Brewers on television regularly, living in WI too close to the Twin Cities, but my Dad and I would listen to Bob and Pat on the radio most nights while he worked in the garage or yard and I played baseball or basketball with myself. I could always shoot buckets for a good 3 hours if the game was on. I really started following the team in the newspaper in '93 when I was getting old enough to understand the game more and the team was in the playoff chase. I was really disappointed when they fell short. I always kept tabs on the Brewers and the player movement. I suppose the Packers' success in the mid nineties affected the way I followed the Brewers some. But around 2001 I started really following them more closely, feeling like the team would once again be competitive someday. I made a $50 bet with my uncle in 2003 that the Brewers would make the playoffs by 2008 (cha ching!). Really, I just always wanted the Brewers to be viable and competitive. When I was younger, it didn't matter what the Brewers record was, I just loved baseball and loved listening to it on the radio. I'll always root for the Brewers no matter what their record is. Falling short in 2007 was again bitterly disappointing but 2008 was incredible and am not ashamed to admit I cried a bit when Braun hit that homer in game 162, CC made the final out and when the Mets fell to the Marlins.
  19. bullpen closer For some reason, this made me smile. What other kind of closer is there? Is this the guy that shuts the bullpen door when a Brewer reliever heads out to the mound? The encouraging thing about this is Melvin talking about going out and getting one or two starting pitchers if CC goes elsewhere. I think he's resigned to the idea that Sabathia won't accept our offer and he's already thinking about a blockbuster for a nice SP. And there's no way that Melvin is satisfied with the 3B situation. He will be looking to upgrade there but like others have said he is holding his cards close to the vest. There's no reason to appear desperate other than to appease the fans.
  20. Ooh, I do love the Baconator from Wendy's or the Arby's chicken bacon sandwich. I'll take 5 sliders from White Castle anytime. Tuna sandwich from Subway. Mmm, maybe that's what I'll eat today.
  21. I doubt Dunn signs anywhere that isn't going to play him nearly every day though. If you sign Dunn, which I would really love, you have to trade Hart and move Braun to RF.
  22. The Cubs have played with cats in their pants for years... http://www.global-report.co.il/thainewsland/inline/en/7132ef177b69d539e2afc2a6e9ef8715.jpg
  23. Sign Branyan and also Lamb for the time when Russ is hurt. Keep Hall around to platoon against LHP and super-sub at SS and 2B. I really don't see any better options considering we wouldn't have to trade away players for Branyan or Lamb.
  24. Maybe we'll luck out and he'll pull a Favre and want to come back right before or during spring training. :P Then we'll have to listen to Doug Melvin saying "McClung is our closer, we've committed to him, Torres can come back in a backup role." :O
  25. I'd love to see the Brewers get Wood Collectively? Sorry...
