Cubs considering Edmonds

Posted

Per the Trib (half-way down the page), the Cubs are thinking about signing Edmonds and sending Pie back to AAA.

Please let this be true.

Pie's not an all-star, but he at least scares me a little bit. Edmonds' game has deteriorated terribly on offense and defense.

Pie is getting a raw deal again in Chicago. I'd say he's done there, and his trade value has gotta be rock bottom right now.

The Cubs can spend money with the best of them, but they really have trouble developing players.

Pie is still very young. He'll be in their organization for a couple more years at least, even if he doesn't put up more than corey patterson numbers.

Well given Edmonds' history it will only be a month before he has to go on the DL anyway.

Or within the first week when he attempts a diving catch and face plants right into the brick wall.

I understand that Pie hasn't performed at the MLB level (ever), but still, it's over 240 AB's. He had a .973 OPS last year in AAA... He's got nothing else to prove at that level, and the only way he's going to figure out MLB pitching is to face it.

Luckily, this is a great move for us, long-term. It just postpones Pie's learning curve, or better yet, forces the Cubs to deal him away because he's disgruntled.

This puts us even with the Cubs. Now they can have an aging overpriced CF too.

He won't be overpriced. Cubs will be paying him the prorated minimum.

It's a good sign that Cubs continue to pick up rejects. They can't be all that confident some of their guys will continue to perform like they have. Remember what a darling Blue Jay reject Reed Johnson was there for a while? Now he's down to earth with a .657 OPS. His biggest contribution as a Cub might be that he took out Gallardo.

That's hilarious about Johnson. It was inevitable that he'd fall, but I hadn't realized it had already happened to that extent.

Johnson did have a big 2-run home run the other day against the D-backs, but I feel like the Cubs are going to be looking for a center fielder right up until the trade deadline.

If the Cubs start Edmonds, i will be a very happy camper. That guy has nothing left in his tank, and honestly would be worse than PIE both on defense and offense.

Reed Johnson = Cubs MVP

Who else is going to help the Cubs cause more this year? He put our #1 pitcher out for the year. No one else on that team is going to do more this year to hurt the Brewers chances at the post season.

As for Edmonds at least Lou has someone else he can relate to. They can tell each other tales about the horse and buggy days from when they were kids.
