General Draft Discussion Thread

[colbyjack]

Use this thread to talk about the draft in more of a in-game conversation format.

If I were the Rays, I'd take Beckham, but they sure are in love with Posey.

[TuesdaysWithRillo]

Beckham it is!

[zzzmanwitz]

MLB.com's draft tracker is not working........... ugh

[nodakfan17]

How long does each team have to make their selection? Does it vary by round?

[bball123h2]

Colbyjack 6-6 thus far:

1. Tim Beckham - TB

2. Pedro Alvarez - PIT

3. Eric Hosmer - KC

4. Brian Matusz - BAL

5. Gerald (Buster) Posey- SF

6. Kyle Skipworth - FLA

Edit: Reds with Yonder Alonso at 7. The Reds ruin everything.

How much value does Alvarez lose if he can't/doesn't play 3B? Keith Law mentioned he may be moved to 1B since he has a clear path to the majors at that position.

[colbyjack]

Alvarez is a Mark Teixeira type slugger that projects to hit anywhere on the field. Moving to 1B shouldn't effect his value.

I personally think he should be able to stick at 3B. I've seen him compared to a left-handed hitting version of Aramis Ramirez, which is a solid comp.

[EdgarDiazRocks]

Hey, the Giants DIDN'T make a wacky pick!

First time for everything.

MLB.com's draft tracker is not working........... ugh

It's working for me!

[zzzmanwitz]

Matusz doesn't seem to have much upside, seems to be the safe pick at this point. I'm not sure I would be making that sort of pick if I were Baltimore. I would want to make more of a splash.

Does that mean he'll get traded to the Cubs for virtually nothing again? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

[TuesdaysWithRillo]

No real surprises yet.

What? "Dammmit" Bobby Hill? Nothing? he's was a star at Tom Landry Middle School?

Does anyone have a link for a website that follows the draft, but doesn't auto update? My company watches the number of hits and will call you out on things like that. I would like to be able to look in at the draft every :30 or so so I can keep track of what is going on, but not get in trouble. Any help is appreciated.

[samwise]

I think Pedro Alvarez is going to be a beast.? I love his swing.

[TuesdaysWithRillo]

My False hope of Aaron Crow falling to us has ended.

[zzzmanwitz]

There are a lot of players available that I would still be very happy with the Brewers taking. Its nice having a deep draft. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

[Hate those Rodents]

Where is the chat link? Does anyone have it, I can't find it for some reason...

[Cyanogen5]

Thanks zzzman, funny how I missed the ESPN link...I almost never go there anymore, so I didn't even think to check there.

[Team Canada]

Man that's a lot of catchers in the top 10.

edit: Hm, well it seemed like more than 3..

[Tbadder]

Yes, Houston takes Jason Castro. I was afraid the Crew were on him hard. I hope Lawrie is available when the Crew pick.

[LUKE232323]

Well, now that Castro is off the board, am hoping Friedrich falls to us.

[Hate those Rodents]

BA's final mock has every player slotted correct so far except for Castro. That's pretty darn good...
