OK, is Kolb the better option than Turnbow in the 9th? There's no justification for letting your best reliver rot on the bench so he can compile meaningless saves. Just mindless,"follow the leader" mentality.

 

Perhaps, but at some point the other relievers in the bullpen need to stop sucking and get the job done.

i agree with russ. it's been almost a week since turnbow has pitched. yost has "saved" him for opportunities that never arrived because our inferior bullpen pitchers blew it. turnbow should be used in the game's most crucial inning, not just sitting around waiting for a situation that might not even happen.

 

granted, we were fortunate to work around a lead-off walk in the 9th here, but seriously, what is it going to take to get turnbow in there?

The reason why is because they can afford to send their closer out for the 10th inning. the Brewers really can't - although it helps to have relievers like Kolb and (to a lesser extent) Wise.

I wish I knew the Brewers record in extra innings on west coast trips over the last 6-7 years. I can't remember ever winning an extra inning game out there.

Oh, and please notice that our friend Roberts is batting 2nd in the bottom of the 10th. Extra base hit comming up.

 

Won in extra innings against the LAAAAAAA in 17 innings. Scotty Po doubled in Council. Sheets went 9 innings and gave up one hit, yet it still took an entire other game for the Brewers to finally score a run.

I really don't understand why this is that big of a deal. Either you have to trust someone to get you to the next inning, or you use Turnbow and then trust that another guy can close it out. 3 outs is 3 outs.
