Someone on a fantasy site I visit posted this quote from the Giants.

Regarding today's weather and our Opening Day game against the Brewers, please know that we will make every effort to play the game. The Giants have no plans to cancel/postpone the game and urge you to head on out to AT&T Park as planned for a memorable first day of 2009 Giants Baseball!

Sincerely,

San Francisco Giants

Not sure where it came from but seems they are trying to get it in no matter what.

I was thinking all The Muscle would have had to do was break out the Oakleys. Then the sun would know it had to come out.

Hopefully the rain will start to sputter out. I don't think I could handle a rainout! Waited entirely too long for that to happen.

Just curious... but Lincecum vs Suppan is obviously a mismatch in their favor. If we get this game in and it is played in drizzle and semi-showers and cold and damp and all that... does that make it an even bigger mismatch or does that even things up a bit? Who would it effect more? The young flamethrower or the grizzled innings eater?

Lincecum is from Seattle so he is used to crappy weather and lots of rain. IIRC, in the beginning of the season last year the Giants and the Dodgers played a rain soaked game where Bochy and Toree pulled the starters but Boachy had Timmy come in for relief in the 4th inning. The Giants took some heat for that decision, but it all worked out. So, I would have to guess that this kind of weather makes things an even bigger mismatch.

I would agree that the crappy weather probably favors the Giants only because Lincecum strikes so many more people out. Suppan relies on his defense and the soggy field will probably slow everyone down.

That had me cracking up. But then I thought about it and knew it would be true. Branyan can do things other men only dream of.

San Francisco - I was standing in the Brewers' dugout a few minutes ago, talking to manager Ken Macha, when the AT&T Park groundskeeper came over to discuss the weather situation.

Macha was told to be prepared for a late-afternoon start. It's not raining now, but apparently a big rain cell is headed this way, right around game time.

Rather than start the game in the rain, or have it rain just after starting, they seem to be preparing for a start around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. local time, which would be 6 or 7 in Milwaukee.

Obviously, this all depends on the whims of the weather, which is subject to change. I'll keep you folks apprised of the situation.

looks like they're going to play the game....come into the chat room and talk about it http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Of course the owner in SF wants to delay the start of the game. More people to linger in the ballpark, buy more souveniers and concessions.

Keep in mind that the Giants decide if/when the game starts. Once it starts, the umpires have control thereafter of those decisions. The Giants are going to wait until such time as there is a significant window (2+ hours), not just a partial window. The reason? Lincecum

From the same people that brought baseball Barry Bonds the role model...now we have this Opening Day weather screw up. I'm beginning to hate the Giants. Either that or I've been in SoCal long enough that the NoCal hatred is starting to rub off on me.

I like how FSN aired the Brewers line-up announcement via John Miller but cut to commercial for the Giant's line-up.

It's game time! Go BREWERS! It's time to surprise!
