Trade proposal - Vargas and Mench and Inman for.... ?

My dream is to trade those 3 for Jonathan Broxton, but I am sure that's fantasy type talk. Broxton looks like a Superstar closer in the making.

 

But I do think a package of Vargas and Mench and a pitcher like Inman could bring in a good solid relief pitcher. Gallardo is ready for MLB, I think

Vargas' WHIP has been ridiculous. According to the game the other day, he's failed to make it through the 5th 3 times already (not cause of injury like Sheets and Cappy). Vargas seems to put guys on like Doug Davis, but then strikes guys out. What's weird is that I thought he was a groundball pitcher, but he's the most extreme flyball pitcher in our rotation. I could see him replacing Dessens in the pen with Yo moving to the rotation in late June.

 

I wouldn't deal Yo or Inman right now. It may sound crazy, but the potential return for the league minimum salary is a huge plus, whereas the guys we'd be packaging them for would command a huge salary.

DHonks-its why I never liked Vargas. He's throws a sinker but ends up with extreme flyball numbers. That said, he is more valuable than most relief pitchers that be available, especially since the Brewers still have a boatload of internal options. He is also the only real chip on the major league roster and will be needed to bring in corner outfielders.

 

As for Mench, as this point he's a salary throw in, so you need to find a reliever getting way too much money.

Broxton is definitley worth looking at but Inman might be little stiff for me. I would rather package Zack Jack or even Manny Parra if that is possible.

sure he's our #2 pitching prospect, but how much value could an A-ball prospect really have to other teams? aren't most always looking for the AAA- or AAAA-type pitcher? I'd almost wonder if ZJ might have more value in a trade then Inman at least right now unless Inman gets promoted and succeeds pretty shortly.

....i really like the idea of Broxton, though. sets us up when CoCo leaves, and trading Inman++ away is softend quite a bit by the bigger prospect Yo staying with Milwaukee. And clearly whatever outfielder would end up going to LA, we've got a replacement for.

 

I don't understand why Gabe Gross wouldn't have any real trading value, though.

Inman has a lot more value as he more of an upside. Zack Jack looks like has already topped out and looks at best to be #4 starter. I'm all for trading Zack Jack but he don't see him having a lot of value.

yo's got an extra click on the fastball, but Inman's been more dominant at every level...

 

i think he's 95% untouchable...and in 2 months he'll probably be the #1 prospect

I wouldn't give up Inman for anything at this point. You can never have too much pitching, I'd be much more willing to part with a positional prospect, rather than a SP prospect, for a reliever.

Just because Broxton is the best 8th inning guy in the league doesnt mean saito is one of the best 9th inning guys. Saito just seems like an average closer to me.

Since he isn't a fireballer that blows people away he doesn't get a lot of credit. Saves are all about oppurtunity, just take a look at Riveria in New York this year.

Why bother with Broxton? He's good, but he's already pretty established so he would take a lot to trade for, which is stupid for a team like the Brewers, imo. I'd rather keep Inman and try to package some lesser arms for a guy who is dominating AAA but isn't getting a chance for whatever reason (like Neshek a couple years ago).

 

Plus, as some people mentioned, you could potentially put a guy like Inman or Vargas in the bullpen and get similar results to what Broxton does (maybe not quite as good, but then you'd still have both guys).

What's interesting about Jonny Broxton is that when he was coming up in the minors, there were only two "relief prospects" in the minors (Joel Zumaya was still thought of as a starter), Jonny Broxton and Jose Capellan, with Latin Cappy getting slightly more fanfare because of his parent club at the time, the Braves. Oh, how the star has faded...
