Trade chatter heating up (6/11)...

If last year is any indication, Melvin would want to get his pitcher before the All Star break if possible. I think we had CC for two extra starts last year because he pulled the trigger on a deal earlier than most. This is exciting...

Bedard & Parra are both scheduled to pitch Saturday, and Lee's scheduled to pitch Sunday.

You would have to think that Jack Z would jump at the chance to trade for the guy who pursued big-time as a draft & follow player, assuming the package was sweetened with some other young talent. Heck, we could even get Branyan back in the deal http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Is this a hint, or just speculation? And I would love to get Branyan back, even though he went to Seattle with the stated purpose of playing everyday. That would be sweet.

Is this an informed hint?

Thanks thread, as if I wasn't being unproductive enough today!

i hear you, between this and the actual game, the productivity meter is not too high.

Good memory, brewtank. I remember thinking RyDogg had made a solid post at the time... looks downright 'Nostradomical' at this point http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
If it happens I want my tag changed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm not sure how I'd feel about Parra for Bedard. Obviously at the moment Bedard>Parra, but Parra, though very frustrating at the moment, has good potential. In any event, his potential is more certain than the potential we get for two draft picks if we dont' re-sign Bedard.

I don't Bedard makes us a lock for anything either. He makes us better probably, but not for certain.

Bedard makes us better definitely, not probably. He is a better pitcher now than Manny. The trade may not make us better in the future but if it did happen it would make us better right now.

I could see giving up Parra for Lee. Lee is a better pitcher and cheap for next season. Bedard? I probably wouldn't include him in such a trade unless we get some more back.

Im less thrilled with Bedard seeing as he is a FA and had some injury issues as recent as last year. At least with peavy we are looking at solidfying the rotation for the next 4 years.

I'd do Parra for Bedard. Especially since they took 2 college pitchers with their first two picks. Parra may be what he's been for his whole career. Even if he does develop, it may not be for another couple years, when they stand a better chance today of having guys in their system ready than they did 2 days ago.

Is it a pitcher for sure? Someone mentioned it was a starter, but not starting pitcher. I'd almost rather get another quality stick in the lineup right now.

From Richie's post #19 in this thread, I think when he's using "starter", it's interchageable with "starting pitcher".

You just don't see the phrase "frontline starter" used to refer to anything but pitching imho.

I'm not against trading Parra necessarily, but Parra for 1/2 season rental of Bedard is steep. We'd be selling low on Parra, who is young, and capable of doing better than what he's doing now.

It would be a strange time to deal him in terms of established Doug Melvin behavior, since he doesn't usually sell low unless he's buying low at the same time.
