Truly a sad day. One of the highlights of my very sheltered life was when I got to take pics of one of my bikes with the Weinermobile.

I still get a kick out of it to this day when I see the Weinermobile cruising around town.

Yeah, I had no idea it was an actual person either. Sounds like he had a pretty successful life.

This was actually the Grandson of the Oscar Mayer who founded the company.

This Oscar Mayer, Oscar G. Mayer, was the namesake of a Hall at Beloit College that was mostly used to show second-run movies in on weekends. He touched my life deeply.

Started working for the family business in 1936, years before anyone's bologna had a first name.

It's certainly cool that he stayed with the family business and made it grow and become part of the American landscape.

As a kid, I consumed more Oscar Mayer meat products than I'd care to admit. That stuff had/has so much sodium and fat that I'm surprised I survived. . .Olive Loaf, Pickle & Pimento Loaf, Bologna, Hard Salami, Hot Dogs, Ring Bologna. . .I don't ever remember getting lunch meat from the actual deli counter, or meat from an actual butcher. It was all that pre-packaged stuff.

If I cried tears over OM3's passing, they would be salty and gelatinous.

One of the first things I did in college was to take a writing test in Mayer Hall, the morning after moving into the dorms.

Honestly, when the radio news in Madison said the other day that a longtime Madison businessman had died, I figured it was one of the Goodman brothers. I did not realize that an Oscar Mayer was (had been) still alive.

As a little kid my wiener whistle was tied with my army men as my 2nd favorite possessions. Number one of course was my Davy Crockett coonskin cap.

I never knew Oscar Mayer was: a) a real guy, or b) still alive. It sounds like he had a good run though.

I heard it said that it was an 'open bun' funeral http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
