For those wondering, the NL record for home runs allowed by a single pitcher in a season is 48 (Jose Lima). MLB record is 50 (Bert Blyleven). Looper has 29 as of this post...if nothing else, it should be interesting to see how close he can get to Lima.

It's gonna be hard for Looper to catch Lima at this point, although I do believe if there is anyone who could do it, it would be Loup. For a bit of perspective, Looper has given up 1.91 HR/9 this year, Lima gave up 2.20! However, I wonder what happens when you adjust for era...

Looper is just awful. I can't stand watching him pitch. Is there anyone falling short of projections more than him?

Looper looked horrendous pretty much all night, not sure what Macha expected from him in the 6th.

Even the good relievers (Stetter, DiFelice) from early in the season have struggled lately. Are they overworked or just losing effectiveness? Nothing about this team is trending upward.

Macha is simply terrible at managing the pitchers. He's always spouting nonsense about having to "save the bullpen." Yes, we know that you can't use the pen every night, but you can use it when the SP looks terrible and its still a close game after five innings.

 

I would argue that part of the reason the bullpen has been struggling lately is because Macha's always setting them up to fail.
