Overbay's contract

What type of a deal do you guys see Overbay gettiing and do you think he'll land a starting job. I see him possibly as a great value signing for somebody. I am trying to figure out a reason for us to sign him but I just can't see him getting enough at bats. I wish he could handle some corner outfield in addition to first base.

I sign him if there is a chance to deal Prince...I think he is a perfect short term guy there.

I agree. It might be a guy Melvin looks into anyway to appease the fan base with his job possibly on the line.

The biggest reason the Brewers have to move Fielder right now is to get Gamel ABs. No reason to bring in a guy who isn't that good anymore.

Saying ABs for Gamel is the biggest reason they need to trade Prince is equivalent to my wife saying the biggest reason we got married was that she needed someone to mow the lawn. Gamel ABs are probably on the second or 3rd page of reasons they need to trade Prince.

For me...AB's for Gamel has zero value in a Prince trade. I am not a Gamel guy....not at all.

Yeah, I more wanted his bat for our bench. Like I said, I wish he could play some corner outfield. He then could maybe sub enough at three positions and pinch hit to be worth going after for something like 2/4M.

If Fielder gets traded, I would rather just use Gamel or McGehee (or possibly Hart) at first base. Overbay is still a decent player, but not worth spending much money on for a team like Milwaukee. He made just under $8 million last season. I would guess he might expect a pay cut at this point, but would still probably cost $4 million or so to sign.

it's hard for me to imagine that everyone else in the organization except Macha wanted to see Gamel get a ton of ABs last season, and now that Macha is gone, that we'd go so far as to make our FA plans specifically around finding Gamel maximum time on the diamond.

 

i can only imagine how loud the cheers would be the first time we'd get to see Overbay walk back on the field. i'd love to have Overbay take over for Fielder just for irony's sake.

Overbay hasn't driven in over 70 runs since 2006. Nobody is going to sign him as a starter.

Lyle should probably never face a lefty pitcher again. He could play another 5-8 years as a lefty PH for contenders, but he's only an everyday player on a bottom feeding team.

If the Brewers were still in the A.L., I'd be in. Since they're not, I'm out. No room for him if Prince is here, and even if he's not, as others have said, Gamel needs to get a chance somewhere- whether that means moving Hart to first, putting Gamel there or whatever.
