Gallardo and limiting his innings

I believe the typical bump in innings is not 30 but 20%. So if Yo threw 150 last year, then a 30 inning increase would be appropriate. I really doubt they'll pull him out of a start 3 innings in if he is sitting at 180.

This is a non-issue. Gallardo can't be on an innings limit but I would think he would throw 90-100 pitches and pitch every 5th day if they stay in it & possibly they might skip a 5th starter if they can, although the Brewer starters are showing signes of life (knock on wood).

If Yo has lots of easy innnings, as he did two nights ago, he should have some innings beyond the 'limit' in his tank.

In reference to Sutton, Don was actually part of the majors' first 'regular' five man rotation.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

ok one thing that irritates me.....we all agree the more innings he pitches the higher the chances are he gets hurt. I don't think there's any disagreement over that. What irritates me is that if the Brewers are so concerned about his innings, why does he need to pitch the 6th AND 7th innings when the Brewers are up 11-0? The bullpen is fresh with arms, and even the Crew cant blow an 11 run lead in 4 innings. Why waste 2 more innings on Gallardo?

paul, I think you hit the nail on the head with why people were confused - innings limit, pennant race, lack of solid SP, huge lead, extra arms in BP, YoGa pitching the 7th?

So.....sorry to revive this thread, but .......

Under what circumstances do we let Yo pitch again? With 8 games left, Yo has one more possible start. So, his next start is with 3 games left.

Have we burned his arm out yet?

I'm just trying to hold out to some kind of hope here. Even if it is for years future...

I would say they'll play it day by day. If we're out of it no sense in letting him pitch again this year if we're still in it I think he'll stay.

Take out that Colorado start, and Yo's ERA is a sparkling 2.73. Impressive.

I have to imagine he'll stay in the rotation until the Brewers are eliminated from the postseason.

Hey, no sweat. It ain't a designated thread for nothin'. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Yo's at 168 innings, and we were talking what? 180? I think he's fine.

Well, either my adding was affected by today's loss or Baseball Cube is behind. I don't really want to see him go more than 10% or so over 180 innings, but I still think there's a bit of room to work with. He sure looks to be pretty strong.

I think his recent stretch of good games has helped a lot. Many (most) of his innings have been easy. Not all pitch counts or innings counts are created equal. It's pitching out of jams that's a killer.

kgbaseball[/b]]He's at 182 right now.
And most likely that is, unfortunately, where he will end the season. Even if he does start one more, he'll be at 188 or 189 innings vs. the desired limit of 180. This precaution of limiting innings is surely not that precise a science.

On the outside chance that the Brewers still make the playoffs, I'm pretty sure Gallardo will be on the post season roster and pitch as much as is needed.

I have a question in regards to Yo's inning limit next season. Why would we worry about it? I am not saying that we shouldn't watch his innings, but what are the chances it actually comes into play? If we are talking about a limit of around 210 innings next year I doubt it comes into play unless we make the post season. I don't think they would count the post season in his innings limit so what are the odds he actually pitches 210 or more innings next year. I just ask because it seems to be something that keeps getting brought up in any starting rotation discussion.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I don't think his innings will be a huge deal next season. Usually, teams will add about 20% each year. Gallardo has about 185 this year. 20% of that is 37, putting him well over 200 for next season. I don't think he'll go much over 200, but 200 should be the limit for 2008.

Let's just hope he has the opportunity to reach 200 innings. Maybe tell him not to hang out with Sheets in the off-season.
