Dominic James update

Al, Tucker isn't exactly an apples-to-apples comparison. I think Jameer Nelson is a better comparison for Dominic James. Nelson was a late first pick, but that draft was fairly lean after the top 10 guys. Had Nelson been in the 2007 draft he probably would not go in the first round.

If anything, this draft is deep, so waiting a year should help.

james is nowhere near the player nelson was in college....lets not forget, nelson can/could shoot..unlike james

this was a draft considered weak at the point guard spot and he still hasnt found interest. He'll really have to improve to work his way into the draft next year

He better be shooting 1,000 jump shots a day, if he's truly serious about being a pro. Otherwise he will need to learn Turkish so he can play pro ball with "Bucks Rockie" Rashard Griffith.

This leaves Marquette with too many scholarship players... the seemingly annual transfer out of the program hasn't happened this offseason.

Can they split scholarships like they do in baseball? Splitting 2 scholarships among 3 guys would still leave the players with not that much money owed to the school and the situation would surely resolve itself by the 2008-2009 season.

I don't follow Marquette basketball too closely, but how did this happen? Did Marquette sign another player for this year after James declared, or would they have run into this problem had James never declared?

They were already over the limit when James declared. I think they were probably expecting James to go pro after this season. I think the kid from Notre Dame Prep they signed in November 2006 (Saunders?) put them over the limit.
