Aramis Ramirez's agent, Paul Kinzer, said he is taking a "break" this weekend and hopes to talk again with #[/s]Brewers next week.

I never really liked Aram but only because of the walkoff he hit a few years back that broke our backs. I always thought he was a good player but he hada habit of killing the Crew it seemed

ARam just got my generic Cub-hate. I never had anything personal against him.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I always was an admirer of him, even as a Cub. Other then getting over the whole Sheets thing when he was with the Pirates, I like the guy.

Does anyone else feel "icky" for advocating or getting excited about signing ARam? Behind Pujols and Yadi, ARam is/was my least favorite player in MLB. Still hard to wrap my head around the idea of cheering FOR him. I do think his bat would go a long ways in improving the offense once Prince signs elsewhere, but it just feels so wrong to want him.

Apparently you and I are alone in our ARam hate. He is my least favorite player in baseball. At least Pujols has 3 MVPs when he watches a 350 foot flyout. As I said in an earlier thread, I almost started a riot behind the Cubs dugout the night he injured his knee in 2009. Not necessarily proud of it, but it was a joyous moment for me.

All that said, I would quickly change my hate to love the second he donned a Brewer uniform. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Doesn't seem like there is a lot of interest in Ramirez outside of the Brewers.

Exactly, and what should that tell the Brewers?

FIB4Brew and cubsdie, no you're not alone. I don't want the Brewers to sign him either.

What are the odds he settles for a one or two year deal?

A one year deal would be very unlikely almost a zero percent chance that Ramirez would take a one year deal. Ramirez turned down a nice player option for one year and I don't see him accepting a one year deal that will be less than what he could have gotten by accepting his option. Ramirez may just retire if he doesn't get a deal that is at least a 2-year deal with a very reachable vesting option for a 3rd year.

the non-tender deadline is Monday night. I assume we'll have to have a pretty good idea on Ramirez before we make decisions on guys like McGehee, Kotteras, and Loe

Doug I am thinking the Crew has an idea of Price they want to give Ramirez and think it he realize the well is drying up he might be a brewer.

Hopefully after his trip to disney he makes up his mind to stay close to home an accepts the Brewers offer.

Bowden has something on espn (it is actually on insider but they let you read the first part) that says he thinks Ramirez to the Brewers at 3 year 36 million. Not sure if he has any insider info. Says the Tigers, Marlins and Phillies could also be players

He also thinks Prince is heading to Texas

MLBTR has a note (link) that Texas may be interested in Casey McGehee so they could trade Moreland to TB for Wade Davis.

If the Crew is going to sign Ramirez, this would make some sense they'd get something in exchange for Casey rather than non-tendering him, they wouldn't have 4 corner IF types, and the 2 young guys would likely still get good PT.

Would love to trade Casey for a bullpen or backup at SS. Green can back up 3B and 2B. If something happened to Gamel maybe Ramirez could slide to 1B and Taylor to 3B.

If we get anything helpful for Casey I would be pumped.

It's too bad we can't trade McGehee for Wade Davis, that's a deal I would definitely get behind.

I would rather have Matt Moore but if Davis is all we could get I guess I could go for it

I think that the Brewers should offer Ramirez 2 year/$20 million. Kick in a few performance incentives for ASG appearances, etc. that could take it up a few million a year to keep him motivated. If he truly wants to stay close to home, maybe he will take it. Teams don't seem to be beating his doors down either.

Matt Moore....lmao, that kid is untouchable
It should have been in blue. I thought the Wade Davis reference wasnt serious either. A guy who is about to get non-tendered for a starter who has been decent to good in the AL East seemed unreasonable

Aram turned down a guaranteed $15m for 2012 from the Cubs. He's not signing a 2 year deal for $20m unless the market completely collapses.

I'm assuming that you are talking about arbitration. As I said, I'd kick in few few million per year in incentives as well. He also got $2 million from the Cubs to go away. If that's not good enough, he can take his talents elsewhere. I've went back and forth on this guy, and I've decided that I wouldn't go more than two years. If Melvin won't go two years on guys like Hinske or JHJ, why should he go three or even four years on Ramirez? Much more risky if you ask me, especially when I'm not convinced that anyone will give him three years.
