Rickie. Don't blink or you'll miss his homerun.

I bet neither of the starters make it to the 6th.

Marcum is on a 90 pitch limit...

I'm pleased that Braun didn't get hit in the head by that ball. It might not've been that close, but it looks like it could've been.

Also - yay, a lefty up with men on!

Edit: Waaah waaaaaaaah...

He's looked pretty good besides the HRs. He had to throw a few extra pitches because of the error, and he's still only at 42 through 3 innings.

If Rickie's home run went about 375 feet (distance to the pole + a very rough allowance for the curvature of its flight path), then it was traveling an average of 75.9mph throughout its flight. Neat.

I agree. He's made 2 mistakes and they made him pay on both. Other than that, good life, good movement, and pretty good command.

Yeah, hasn't really looked too bad besides those 2 pitches.

How about Gonzalez getting the bat going?

Some posters are on to something. I think Yuni and Casey may have been spared from a handful of errors had the first baseman been able to scoop the throws out of the dirt, or been tall enough to snag a high throw. But neither were liked, so it was always on them.

I don't know how much better defensively Gamel is, but a bad throw by Gonzo or Weeks might end up in people blaming Gamel for any missed scoop if he isn't producing offensively. If Gamel is tearing it up, and Gonzo is struggling, I think people would blame the same exact play on the throw.

Still don't like the squeeze, even if it worked. Now Roenicke will be tempted to do it any chance he gets and claim it worked the first time.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

RRR loves his squeezes!

Nice call.

nice call if it works, that had nightmare written all over it.

That's the case for every squeeze.

Jesus, ESPN, get your camera work in order. This game is borderline unwatchable.

I switched over to FSN after they were giving Braun the business...

I think Prince got his fair share of ridicule in the IGT for his defense. He was ripped on for being too short, too slow and bad at scooping the ball. Yuni was mostly hated for his terrible range. A-Gon has better much better range and it should become obvious as the season goes on.

The error earlier was a low throw, but it was right on line. An MLB 1st baseman needs to make that play. Gamel knew it, if you saw him cursing at himself after the inning ended.

Maybe with Casey, but I thought a lot of the complaints about Yuni were due to range and general slowness. Even when Yuni was on one of his boomlets of acceptable hitting, he looked awful in the field. Not saying the eye test is good enough, but if that's what we're talking about here, I don't know that having Pujols at first would've made any difference in general opinion.

It was a gutsy call on Marcum's first AB, but as they say, the best pitch to hit usually the first one. Against the pitcher too, chances had to be good he'd be throwing a strike there.

Great play by Marcum to make it pay off.
