Daniel Ray Herrera just pitched against the Cardinals. Promptly allowed his inherited runner to score.

For the life of me, I'm trying to figure out why at Miller Park why its always left field that's always trying to start the wave, other than "that's their job"
Posted

They try to start them in RF, but the Field level RF bleachers are the worse place to start them at Miller Park.

My feelings on the wave should be reserved for a post in the What's Bugging You thread.

The poster previously known as Robin19, now @RFCoder

EA Sports...It's in the game...until we arbitrarily decide to shut off the server.

The wave is more challenging to achieve in Miller Park because some of the seating areas are on top of each other, making it harder for a crowd to stay in sync. Having said that, I'm with Robin19 on the general issue. Camp Randall, sure, knock yourselves out. Not in baseball.

I seriously just saw a student in my library with a Betancourt player tee. I asked her why Yuni and she replied, with shining eyes, " Because I love him! He's my favorite Brewer!" I don't feel that way about him, but I respect her opinion. (Note that she didn't say he was the best Brewer.)

Yuni's my favorite Brewer, too, when there are two outs and I have to pee.

I imagined this comment being said by this fellow:

I've concluded that waves are fine when Yuni is batting but that they're a distraction at other times.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

It's usually not the wave in and of itself, its the ridiculous people involved in the wave:

Like the one (usually a lady) in front of you who leans forward, usually cutting off your view of the field, and does the "Ooooh, it's coming. Do you see it? It's coming. I'm so excited. I love the wave. It's coming (now bouncing in seat) It's coming! Ooooh." and then does the wave and then continues "Oooh, there it went. That was so fun. The wave is so great. Watch it go. There it goes." Repeat ad nauseum

Or the drunk guy who stands at the front of the section for two innings going "Ready? We're going to start the wave. Ready? Are you guys ready? 1! 2! 3!..... You guys didn't do it. We'll try again!"

Stupid people are the problem, not the wave

Since Andy Rooney is hanging them up, this one is in his honor:

I'm glad my last name isn't "Carpenter", with my friends and acquaintances calling me "Carp". That seems like a bad nickname to have.

99% of the time it's a drunk guy between 25-30, seemingly by himself. They also always totally give off the vibe that they try way too hard to impress people in all facets of life.

Sorry to say but I disagree with your last point. It's fine at college football games, I just don't like it at baseball games.

That's exactly what the guy sitting next to me said this weekend, as he got up to go pee.... and Yuni promptly tripled.

I caught SNL this weekend. Melissa McCarthy was hosting. I don't really know who she is. Apparently she was in "Bridesmaids" and has been in some TV Series and won an Emmy this year. However, I thought she was really good. Very, very funny...one of the best episodes of SNL in a long time, mainly because of her.

She's on a show called Mike and Molly - despite not knowing the show, you might have heard some of the hubub that surrounded it early because it features two overweight people and there were a lot of folks saying it shouldn't be on TV.

She was on Gilmore Girls for 7 seasons as the mom's best friend and co-worker, Suki.

Funny--I thought the same thing at that point, though I was watching from home. After he took the first pitch I wondered who it was that I was watching. . .I will be glad to eat my words if he keeps it up. . .

I thought the opening skit was terrible. Possibly one of the worst things I've ever seen, but I really don't like most of what Kristen Whig does. The rest of the show was pretty good though.

Agreed, she was great. Haven't seen a guest host so comfortable with physical humor in a long time (it helps that she's a comedian to begin with, of course).

The first time they did the Lawrence Welk skit (2 years ago?), I thought it was pretty funny, but they have overdone it now. I think Kristen Whig is usually pretty funny though and one of the reasons I still watch the show. However, I will say I've never been as critical of SNL as other people are.
