Awesome. This is the silver lining of not being in Japan during baseball season this year: I know I get to skip him completely. Unfortunately, none of the baseball fans I know in Japan are Buffaloes fans, so I have nobody to tease.

I guess he's got acceptable power by their standards/with their juiced baseballs, but I really can't see his lazy play and general lack of skill being appreciated there.

The major league teams simply watched film from the last few years and quickly pretended they were never interested in him.

The guaranteed money in Japan must have outweighed the meager minor league deals he was attracting here. I still can't believe that he's only 31.

I predict he's awesome in japan, comes back to America weighing about 300 pounds, hits 50 hrs for the Tigers, and in about a decade we draft Prince Betancourt with our first round pick in the draft.

We know that Melvin is actually capable of cutting Gonzalez outright, so I am not worried about that one.

 

But if he somehow gets a hold of Yuni again..... How much would he have to pay the Orix Buffaloes to negotiate with Yuni......

I picture a 45 year old Betancourt telling some team somewhere, "I think I'm ready to retire...but if you're going to pay me THAT MUCH, then OK, you get Yuni for one more year..."

Good luck to him, seems like a good guy. FWIW, I'm not buying in any way that he's 31, I would bet that he's closer to 35.

Yuni took the contract with the Orix Buffaloes because it was guaranteed and higher pay. Anything offered in the MLB were likely non-guaranteed minor league deals. Better money and guaranteed playing time pretty much clinches this decision.
