Cards already destroyed by the Mets and I have nothing to watch so I thought I would drop in and root you guys on. I don't like the Braves. I actually hated them in the 90's! I would love to see them finish last in the East.

Why is Elian Herrera in the major leagues instead of Scooter Gennett? Gennett gets sent to the minors after about 60 at-bats after hitting around .300 the last two seasons? What gives? This does not make sense.

Pine tar on the arm. That's a 10 game suspension I believe.

Thanks, watching on gameday so I was really confused why the 2nd base umpire tossed him. Makes sense now.

This bullpen is a complete fraud and joke. Between Broxton being fat and sucking, Smith with Pine tar, and Cotts being horrible we have a pretty good pen. Glad we take fliers on sketch pitchers and then whine about guys like K-Rod who actually do their job.

I have to believe this is a fairly common occurrence, just most pitchers do it more discreetly.

I remember Éric Gagné in his later stint with the Brewers going to the underside of his cap quite blatantly but never getting called on it, presumably since him getting ejected would result in the Brewers bringing in a more effective pitcher.

Smith's looked like vaseline on the arm. I wonder if he gets any additional trouble for trying to snatch the baseball away from the ump on his way to the dugout.

Anybody got a count on how many games the bullpen has blown this year? Sure tonight "technically" is Garza's ER but it's two in a row here now we've just crapped the bed on in the late innings that could very well have been wins.

Agreed. What I don't understand is why Smith was cussing out the Braves' dugout. He cheated. He should be mad at himself. They saw something and it was confirmed to be illegal by the umpires. What were the Braves supposed to do? Let him use pine tar or whatever it was to gain an advantage on their hitters?

Do you know how many pitchers use pine tar? These foreign substances are so widespread...and a lot of people in baseball want them the be legal.

I mean batter use batting tape, gloves, PINE TAR, etc. Etc. Etc.....but a pitcher can't? The rule makes little sense and any manager pointing it out is in poor taste.

Because it's an unspoken agreement that managers don't call opposing pitchers on this because their own pitchers are doing it as well.

Because as stated above, a lot of pitchers do it. So it falls under gamesmanship. It would be like running through traffic to tell a cop someone was jay walking.

This is on top of Gonzalez pulling that crap last year when he wouldn't let Smith warm up. I think Smith just hates Gonzalez for that, and this was just one more thing on top of that.

I was thinking that same thing. Although wasn't that Ron's flub?
