Dodgers - Starting pitching

With all of the issues going on with the Dodgers and their starting pitching, what would it take you (if you were DS) in terms of an offer to trade either Nelson or Guerra?

For Nelson, I'd look to net a player like 2B Willie Calhoun or RHP Brock Stewart.

For Guerra, I'd look to net a player like OF Jacob Scavuzzo or RHP Chase De Jong.

If you are talking realistic targets.

I just don't think other clubs value either of those two pitchers like Brewer fans do, I'm afraid.

Knowing, not wishing, the Brewers asked for Anderson Espinoza in a Nelson deal, I'm sure they'd start right behind Urias on the prospect list.

Jose De Leon for Nelson

What Dave wants I think is irrelevant as the Dodgers have the resources to get much better pitchers than those two.

This is a fair point, that leads to a fair question ....

Which of the available starting pitchers is, "much better than" Jimmy Nelson?

Andrew Cashner

Jorge De La Rosa

Nathan Eovaldi

Scott Feldman

Jeremy Hellickson

Rich Hill

Matt Moore

Jonathan Niese

Jake Odorizzi

Michael Pineda

Ervin Santana

Jered Weaver

When you factor in performance, team control, age and contract .... who's the guy you're chasing here?

I'm not saying Jimmy Nelson is more than he is, I'm saying no one else here is more than he is either.

Teams keep saying, over and over, that this year the pitching supply is very thin, and the upcoming free agent crop will be too. Right now, Tampa says no Chris Archer, Atlanta says no Teheran - unless someone let's go of a better pitcher than the rumors have talked about, the Brewers have every right to ask for a strong return for Nelson right now.

Edit: Who could possibly know how to rate Guerra - nobody, "comes out of nowhere" at age 31. I don't expect him to move based on that alone, and if he does, I would expect the, "Lind Return" rather than a big prospect.

Second Edit: This is also why the Angels should be pushing Matt Shoemaker and Hector Santiago.

Jayson Starks says, "70% chance Chris Archer lands with LA." I get his point, but quotes like that always make me laugh .... how does he know it's not 71%?

Nothing like making up random numbers. Guy must also tell us the weather. :p

70% is likely 2/3rds rounded up. So I am guessing he is saying the chances are more than 50/50, but not 100%.

I highly doubt the Dodgers would do it, but I'd far prefer to take a minimal return to take Garza and some portion of his contract off our hands & payroll.

Maybe that's a dumb thing to say -- I know it's counter to the thread's premise -- but I'm sure not crazy about trading Nelson and probably also not Guerra.

Brewers couldnt trade Garza if they paid his entire salary through next year. Why would the Dodgers even want him, let alone give up any young talent whatsoever?

If anybody wanted Garza, I'm sure he would be gone. I'm annoyed that he's blocking Hiram Burgos and Brent Suter, and those aren't even guys you worry about blocking.

I bet Nelson and Guerra stay put. I think we value them more than other teams likely do, and I'm not sure who's right about them.

I'm not sold on jimmy, if a team came with a good offer I'd take it, don't think value will be good enough for guerra so probably keep him

What I read was that if Chris Sale were available, the Dodgers are willing to headline a deal using Julio Urias. I think that will be the Dodgers trade forthcoming. Curious to see what else the Sox would get after Urias.
