I was in the band in the late 80's and early 90's.  It was very cool leaning out over the glass between plays and yell crap to players.  The hockey players appreciated the grief we gave the other team.

YouTube's algorithm wanted me to watch this on the history of the first NHL season, so I did...and there weren't 6 teams, which got me very confused. Additionally, there were teams I've never heard of in the original league.

Then I found this Kieth Olberman video to drive the point home. He's pretty entertaining. Disclaimer...the one thing it seems he didn't get quite right is the original team in Toronto was technically the Arenas, but the media dubbed them the Torontos.

Wisconsin is now #1 in the USCHO.com poll. What an unbelievable turn around so far.

Looking forward to this weekend.

Should be another good crowd. Nice being excited for Hockey again.

On edit.... Just realized they are on the road. Bummer

Had not gone in a couple of years but went to the first Michigan game and that place was electric, very fun. Can't wait to attend some more games.

I don't know what to think on this.  It does look intentional but can you arrest someone for something done in a game?  I would definitely think he should never be allowed to play hockey again at any level though.

Well, an arrest has been made, although the police have not officially made the man's identity public.

Quite the turn around!  Is this due to the new coach or an influx of talent?

Yes.

In all seriousness, I had to look back at the '05-'06 team (my freshman year of college at UW). I completely forgot that the Bradley Center hosted the championship. I also went down the line of players...Elliott, Pavelski, Earl, Skille (very hyped for what his career was), Street, Dowell, Gilbert, among others. I also saw Ryan Jeffrey, whose wallet I found on the street. My roommate went to HS with him, so it was easy to return. I believe he called him with his brand new RAZR phone.

Wow, am I starting to sound like my dad reminiscing about an old sports team.

A bit of both I think.  For all his faults, Granato could recruit pretty well, and when he left he helped convince players to stay and kept most of the incoming recruits.  When Hastings came over they brought some solid players with him as well.

The interesting thing is - Silye was the CCHA player of the year with 23 goals and 39 points last year.  You can see how good he is, and he hasn't made a huge dent in the stat sheet yet.  He does win so many draws though. They also brought over Fitzgerald and he had 16 goals and 13 apples last year.  This year he is at 1 and 8.  Tassy has been the biggest surprise though, at least on the stat sheet.  Between those 3, Whitelaw, and Finley, it's easy to see why they are better this year.  I'm pretty sure their highest pick has been out the last 3 weeks too! Exciting to get Stramel back.

I had season tickets in the student section in '06-07 and '07-08. Those were some good times. Didn't really get into it until after they won the natty. I loved seeing the Kohl Center packed against Michigan like it was back then. Wisconsin is a hockey and volleyball school now!

Tony was a decent recruiter no doubt but the system they tried to run especially defensively was a disaster.

They've already scored more goals from 5 ft in front of the net or less this year then they have in the previous three seasons combined. Granato's teams were so bad in front of the net on both ends.

Kind of a tough night for Bucky.

Loose 4 to 2.

Playing a pretty good sporty team while down your best player and having several others fighting the flu.

Pretty impressed with Michigan State.

They are the real deal.

Tough weekend for Badgers hockey. Men and women get swept.

When I heard Cruz Lucius was not making the trip and that the flu bug was making its way through the team I figured this was going to be a tough weekend.

Outside of McClellan....Lucius is probably the second most important player on the team.

I didn't get to watch the games. Was Cruz sick as well?

He was out with the flu and never made the trip to East Lansing.

Sounds like coach Hastings had it as well as did several other players.

Thanks for the insight.  That's the 1 beef I have with just using the pairwise - teams lose games while players are out/gone.  I get it, but it is kind of a bummer.

The 1-0 loss to AA is too bad too.  They dominated that game.  Pretty sure they were missing a guy or two for that one too.  Nice to see Stramel back, but he kind of looked non-existent Saturday, though he did score a goal.

Big series this weekend. Will be nice having the band and the students back for it. Not much juice in the building last sat.

Agreed.  Basically my entire beer league team is going to the game this Saturday.  I just looked up tickets in my section - basically all sold out on the lower level except the corners.

You have to be impressed with the turnaround defensively from a year ago.

It's been well over a decade since we had a team that I would say was good defensively and this group is really good defensively.

Too bad they don't have one more sniper.

Aiden Fink could have been that guy.  Kid is lighting it up for PSU.

The Achilles heel is going to be scoring against the more high-end teams that can defend.

Another big series this weekend with the Blue Man group in town.

PSU likes to get up and down the ice so this should be interesting to see if the much improved defense can keep it going.

These guys deserve big crowds.

This is a really good hockey team.

No doubt. This is pretty fun hockey to watch. I was a bit shocked at the sparse crowd when I tuned in to watch
