Trade coming?

Leading candidates among NRIs are Ivan De Jesus Jr. and Rob Scahill. But wouldn’t be surprised if more moves coming.

It obviously involves the pitching. That’s why we have been given only the first two starters.

Not necessarily a trade, could be Garza is being cut. Not predicting that, just looking at all options, of which this is one.

Would not surprise me one bit.

I attended Sundays game and watched him pitch. He got tattooed as usual.

I sat down the right field line by the bullpen. After his start he came down that way sulking. The bullpen coach lit into him about throwing more off speed pitches. Instead of listening Garza gave it right back to the bullpen coach and the two went up the tunnel to the clubhouse. 5 minutes later the bullpen coach came back and Garza didnt.

That said, just eating the 12mil would look really bad for the organization.

Why would that look bad? First Garza was signed by Melvin. Second, it's 12 million not 20 million. Third, the great Theo Epstein waived Edwin Jackson and ate nearly that much even while Jackson was doing OK out of the pen. Eating Garza's salary would make the organization look good. Garza hasn't performed and he's not the best clubhouse guy around.

Has anyone checked to see what Ryan Braun is up to today?

Batting third in the lineup against the Indians.

That would seem to be my first thought too.

Gennett being waived to open up a roster spot could hint to a trade being more likely than an early dismissal of Garza.

Not necessarily related. Or you could make the case that this saves them $3MM of the $12MM they would owe Garza. Cushion the blow a little...

Dinger too.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Or someone from Spring Training not on the 40man making the team?

I've got a feeling that if they trade Peralta I'm going to be underwhelmed. He's anything but a sure thing, but the Brewers have enough minor league depth where the potential benefits of waiting to see if he improves his value outweigh the possibility of getting nothing if he tanks. Unless, of course, the Rangers are willing to pay a premium simply because of the lack of arms on the market, but I've got a feeling that they're bargain hunting.

Cutting Garza outright seems more likely to me, although they also could be sitting down with him and gauging whether he'd be as opposed to moving to the pen as he was a couple of years ago (not saying this is a good idea, just a possibility).

My guesses:

- Garza could be waived/released.

- Could be a trade happening -- and if so, hard to predict which SP & to where & for what -- a more interesting option than releasing Garza but not necessarily more likely.

- If they like both DeJesus & Scahill, they'll need a 2nd 40-man spot. It's not like Barnes is pitching like he deserves to go north (to MIL, that is -- since Colorado Springs is also north), so maybe the door's cracked for Scahill.

Beyond those three possibilities, it's a pure crapshoot, like playing "pin the tail on the roster move."

I do still have hope for Peralta's future as a solid SP and hope he's not dealt.

#Brewers tell Jesus Aguilar he has made team and told Rene Garcia, Ivan De Jesus Jr. and Eric Sogard they will not make team.

Way to go Aguilar forcing yourself on to opening day roster.

So Aguilar takes Scooter's spot on the 40. Really happy for Aguilar. Could be nothing at all, but he's at least exciting.

Aguilar was already on the 40. Im guessing its Scahill taking Scooters spot.

Still haven't announced the rotation 3-5 so could still be something coming.

Haudricourt seems pretty certain something is in the works (or at least that there are some possibilities out there that they're waiting on) and has a nice quote from Stearns backing up that possibility:

Tom‏ @Haudricourt 32 minutes ago

David Sterns on why pitching decisions not made yet: “We have a lot of balls in the air, internally and externally.”

Tom‏ @Haudricourt 31 minutes ago

In other words, if it was just a decision on guys in camp, they would be made by now, for the most part.

Tom‏ @Haudricourt 29 minutes ago

“Balls in air” for #Brewers could mean starters going to relief, going to another team, going to minors. Many ways to skin this cat.

Next couple of days going to be interesting on #Brewers pitching front, it would seem.

If Peralta is somehow the ask on Gallo i'd make that trade yesterday...if for no other reason than to save us from Wily and his "enticing" potential that doesn't fulfill itself.

can't you say the same thing about Gallo?

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. However, the big difference between the two is Peralta's 5 years older and has had 647 big league innings to figure it out since coming up as a 23 year old. Gallo's just entering his age 23 season and has only had 133 big league at bats spread out over two age 21 and 22 seasons so far. I understand people's concerns about his strikeouts, but he's mashed at every level while being 3-5 years younger than the competition, he's controllable, and hasn't been given a consistent chance at the big league level yet. Not to mention we're still a bit light in the organization at first base. I'd take him in a second for Peralta if available. But I highly doubt the offer's on the table.

Barring trade, that makes it seem like we're going with 13 pitchers: 8 starters, plus bench of Pina, Aguilar, Perez, Kirk N. Am I missing someone else who still has a decent shot at making the roster?

T Plush, who is short on a Guerra-Gallo deal? Guerra is old and Gallo lost his luster. Not saying it should be done but it seems pretty fair.

Gallo>Guerra. Not convinced Guerra has that kind of value after a short stint. I wouldn't want Gallo anyway though.

Posted

i would trade gallo for peralta in a second, but not Guerra. i think the brewers should bet on him to see if they can't turn him into a better prospect if he has another good 1st half.

anyway, IF a trade is coming, wouldn't it be for a middle infielder, the best they have off the bench is perez and they have 3 guys now that can only play the corner IF positions, Gallo would be 4 then.
