2 movies that at one time, I thought were pretty good:

The Color of Money

- Decent flick, but I can't stand the ending, so there is no reason to invest a couple hours in the future to rewatch when the ending is just so meh.  Goner

Corvette Summer

- 1978 flick with Luke Skywalker as the lead, and a very young and hot Annie Potts as the leading lady.  Entertaining, but just not something I need to keep and watch again.  Goner

Spinal Tap II

- Eactly as I expected, some funny stuff, some stupid stuff, but worth seeing if you liked the first one.

The Long Walk

- Excellent and disturbing.  Really liked this one!

HIM

- I got a free ticket to this one, or I would never have considered going to see it.

I kind of liked this movie, well, maybe a little, until the ending.  This movie sucked.  It's messed up, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  See it at your own risk.

Saw One Battle After Another today. I'm not a huge Paul Thomas Anderson fan (I like him fine), but Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood are both brilliant films.

OBAA might be better than both. I think it tops Boogie Nights for sure. Not only is it an excellent adaptation of the spirit of Pynchon (my favorite writer), but it's a great film on its own.

Gonna kill off some anxiety by hitting up The Smashing Machine tomorrow, I think. Looks like an engaging sports movie. Hope it's not quite as downbeat as The Iron Claw, but that sure was a good film, in the old tearjerker mold.

Roofman

- Good flick, very funny, and well worth 2 hours of your time.  This wasn't high on my list of movies to see, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it.

Even with a dude sitting next to me, that had to have spent 30 minutes in his car with the windows closed, smoking pot before coming into the theater.  The smell was so strong I was wondering if I would get a contact high before the movie ended.  I mean, it was as if he was smoking up right there beside me it was that strong.

DVD purge:

Went off track a bit and got away from the C movies...

The Last Seduction - Interesting movie, it kept me occupied, but in the end, not really worth keeping.

The Munsters - Trash, not funny, just not good.  Gone.

Killing Me Softly - Heather Graham being naked a few times...  lol  The plotlliine was good, it didn't have a stupid ending, so I think I'll keep this one around.  Keeper.

Back to the C's:

Continental Divide - Belushi, not at his best.  The movie is fine, but no need to see it again.  Gone

Cliffhanger - Stalone and big mountains.  I enjoyed seeing it again, but no need to keep it around.  Gone

Collateral - This is a good one imo!  I'm a pretty big fan of Tom Cruise, the actor, and usually like his movies.  Keeper!

Cloverfield - On the fence  with this one...  I liked it, found it interesting, and I like this kind of disaster/apocolypse type movie.  Undecided still if I want it to occupy storage space or just dump it.

Cocktail -  Always liked this one.  Keeper

Coach Carter - Keeper

We watched The Baltimorons last week. It was very reminiscent of small-budget, independent movies of the early 2000s - no-name actors, some laughs, and some heart. Neat to see Jay Duplass go back to his roots.

Just saw Nuremberg. It was excellent and moving to be honest. Pretty much anything with Rami Malek in it is gold.

Die My Love

- not a must see movie unless you like to be depressed from the beginning of the movie to the end.

- many scenes of JL naked, front and backside, I'm a little surprised she is willing to do that so often given her star status.

- It's just not a good movie.  I'm sure some of you with a different palette than myself will beg to differ, but if you are deciding between this movie and a different one, pick the different one.

The DVD Purge continues...

Congo - Meh, some good moments, but just not that interesting anymore.  Goner.

Convoy - Late 70's cheese-fest.  Anyone who lived through the CB and 18 wheeler craze at that time might appreciate this one.  Goner

Conspiracy Theory - Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson.  Not a bad movie, but I won't need to see it again.  Goner

All these movies biting the dust really thins down the collection, which was actually my goal.  Thin the heard for storage constraints.

So I was watching Netflix these past two weekends.

Frankenstein surprised me by what it was and was not, I went in expecting a fairly straight adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel filtered through the art of Bernie Wrightson. And while both are there, prominently even, Del Toro kind of does an amalgam of all of the popular incarnations of Frankenstein. There's both the Universal and Hammer versions in the mix. (Including a related homage to the climax of Dracula: Prince of Darkness.) Maybe even the Edison short. It's a lot looser than I expected and has a lot of the themes that Del Toro is interested in. And designed within an inch of its life. But, overall I enjoyed it. I thought Jacob Elordi was very good and a fresh take on the creature. That said, when you take from so many contradictory influences, is it any wonder that you can't reconcile every take into one cohesive statement?

This weekend I watched Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague. I wonder if you have no knowledge of or affection for the French New Wave if you'll get much out of it. I can imagine that the cameos for a lot of viewers mean nothing.  And, to be honest, I got nothing much about the making of Breathless that is not already evident in the movie. That said, Linklater has a light touch with the material and I had fun with the love letter to the French New Wave and breaking rules. Heck, we probably wouldn't have Linklater without it. It's a light souffle of a love letter. Maybe it will encourage someone to actually watch Breathless for the first time. It's a trifle but an entertaining one.

Couples Retreat - This one is pretty funny - Keeper

Commando - One of, if not my favorite Arnold movie! - Keeper

So many classic Arnold one-liners in that one.

Really liked RUNNING MAN today...

Great theater flick for sure!

It's been so long since I saw the original version, so I can't compare them, but this one was pretty awesome!

DVD PURGE:

City Slickers and City Slickers II - Goners

Cold Pursuit - I really enjoy this movie.  Can't go wrong with Liam laying waste on bad guys, and this one adds in some humor along the way too.  Keeper

The Conspirator - If you like history movies, this is one for you!  Excellent flick! - Keeper

Courage Under Fire - I like a good wartime movie - Keeper

Cowboy Way - I do enjoy this movie due to Woody Haralson's character, but just not a strong enough flick to keep in the collection - Goner

The Crazies - For some reason, I'm keeping this one around - Maybe the next time I go through the collection, it will be a goner.

Creed I, II, and III - I love the Rocky franchise, always will.  Keepers, all 3 of them.

L.A. Confidential - Decent movie, but I have no reason to watch it again.  Plus, Kevin Spacey gives me the willies...  Gone.

I've got about 12-15 more "C" movies before moving onto the "D's"

Hundreds of Beavers - wow. I have been meaning to watch this for a while and finally did so today on Amazon Prime. I don't even know how to explain it other than to say you haven't seen anything like this. It was "filmed" in Wisconsin with Wisconsin talent (one of the actors was in a play I saw in Milwaukee a few years ago). It's one part Charlie Chaplin,  one part Sid and Marty Kroft, one part Three Stooges, and one part I don't know what. I'm not doing the plot justice, but it's about a guy in 1800s Wisconsin who learns how to trap animals, and the animals (beavers, rabbits, skunks, wolves, dogs, and a horse) are actors in animal costumes. I thought it was creative as hell and hilarious.  It's probably about a half hour too long, but that's my only gripe.  Seeing is believing.

Wow, Rotten Tomatoes critics adore it. Good week for me to have just started a staycation.

I think there's a good case to be made that it's the cult film of the 2020s. You should see it with an audience. They generally go all out to make a screening special.

As I was watching it, I could not help but wonder if this would be a regular midnight showing at The Oriental someday.

I ended 2025 with Joe Dante's The Movie Orgy from 1968. The 5 hour cut.

If you're not aware, it's essentially a cut of tons and tons of movie clips from a variety of sources that becomes something of a stream of consciousness one of a kind experience. It's like in the old days of just flipping through channels on the dial. It's ridiculously funny and entertaining throughout as you can't predict what's going to come next. I'll see it again, but it's worth seeing by every film fan at least once.

The DVD purge continues:

Crazy Stupid Love - Decent little RomCom, my wife liked it, so keeping...

Creepshow and Creepshow 2 - I remember liking these movies when they came out, hence the reason I have them, but nothing I need to see again.  Goners

Crocodile Dundee (all three of them) - Pass, not good, Goners.

Christopher Robin - Nostalgic and I do have a soft spot for all things Pooh.  Keeper

Howard the Duck - Hard to even sit through, just out and out cheese. My wife lasted 15 minutes, got up and left the room.  lol  Though I admit to having a crush on Lea Thompson throughout the 80's, she wasn't enough to save this stinker.  GONE!

If you are into animated movies then David is a good one and it isn't overly in your face religious either.  I would give it a 7 out of 10.  Not as good as some of the Pixar movies but still a good animated film.
