Better Option: Signing Jamie Garcia or Trading for Patrick Corbin

These two have been discussed at great lengths over the past few days. I am wondering what people think would be the better route for the Brewers to take?

I think I am beginning to be in favor of just signing Garcia and holding onto Santana for a future trade, maybe full of prospects instead.

Santana won't be traded for just Corbin. Corbin will be one small piece to the puzzle. That said, I'd take Garcia for just $ over Corbin.

It depends on what kind of contract Garcia is looking for as he made 12 million last year. I have no problem with him on a 2-3 year deal. I would trade Broxton + for Corbin but that's about it.

Yeah, you are not trading Santana for Corbin. If the DBacks get Santana, they are going to have to send over some good prospects to boot. I can see this happening if we sign Arrieta as we would have all our prospect pitchers in the system as we will not have traded them, and they can slide into Corbin's spot in 2019 when he leaves.

 

I think the trade is more realistic at a Broxton and a #30-#35 prospect for Corbin.

Corbin, and it's not close. Garcia is exactly the type of pitcher a bad team signs, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle to flip him at the deadline.

If Corbin costs more than 1 of Diplan Ponce or Pennington. Garcia. If not, Corbin. His rental contract is at or a bit below market value. Az has it rumored they want to shed some salary. I'd help them with that at a discount but I see his price tag much closer to swarzak's trade than being considered a part of a Santana deal. An 18-25 ranked ticket arm is the highest I'd go.
