Manny Machado (Part 1)

The Orioles are able to sit back and watch the offers come up hour by hour with all of the competition to land him. Supply is one, demand is many.

They will still find a way to screw this up but they are sitting in a great position.

Huira was recently listed as the Number 5 prospect by baseball prospectus. He isn't going anywhere for a rental but he also isn't going to be called up until maybe September. The Brewers have enough depth in their system that they could make a trade for Machado and Dozier and still be able to recover from it. The past two drafts have been very good for the Brewers. Add in the recent successes with International talent, they can absorb deals like that without giving up the top of their prospects.

#Brewers continue to try on Machado, sources tell The Athletic. Arguably club with most urgent need. Thames, Braun, Pina on DL; Cain, just coming off. Team has lost four straight and six of eight.

Sources: Orioles making progress and narrowing their focus in the Machado trade talks. Phillies and Brewers appear to be among the finalists.

From Buster Olney...

Wonder if there’s just a wee bit of panic settling in

No, it is just the talks reaching the end honestly. Machado talks have been going on awhile and have obviously been ramped up recently. We were a big time player before the skid. Obvious Machado is going to be traded before the end of the AS break.

I don't know how anyone is supposed to take any of these "rumors" seriously. This stuff changes from one person to the next almost minute to minute.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I have no reason to doubt Rosenthal and yesterday he said the Brewers were fading. Now all of the sudden according to both him and Olney they’re right back in it. I’m not saying they are panicking, I hope that isn’t the case but it doesn’t seem completely out of the question

I just hope they don’t trade Burnes. Phillips. Ortiz. Another piece. Otherwise I’d shoot for some lesser known players.

We've faded so far we are now a finalist.

My thing with Machado is I think he can make a massive difference...if he is truly an elite hitter (like for any position). If that can continue, huge help. It knocks out a trash hitter AND gives us another middle of the order bat. If he hit more like Cain/Yelich he is still a huge help, but maybe not enough to commit.

You can say Machado isn’t enough, debatable and possible...but if we get Machado I doubt that is the only move. No way.

I didn't think they would make the moves for Yelich and Cain without addressing the pitching but that is what happened. Will Machado make them better, sure. Does he put them over the top, no he does not in my opinion. Two starters and a pen arm in addition to Machado are needed in my estimation.

I agree with this 100%. If Stearns is willing to go against his track record and trade assets for a guy who is going to leave soon, you have to imagine he really does think this team can win it all and he obviously knows they need more help than just Machado (as much as he’d help).

I also believe that there’s no way he stands pat if they don’t land Manny. You don’t involve yourself for a player like that just to not add anything should you not land him.

And it doesn't change as much as it changes. Seriously, how many different ways have they said basically "Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Diamondbacks, Indians, Brewers could all trade for Machado" in 100 new 'updates' in the last week?

The question I ask myself... is over the last week against the Marlins and Pirates , if we had Manny - would the games have gone differently - and to be honest - I think we would have at worst won 2 more games based on his bat replacing some of the Low end production from our SS’s. Just my 2 cents . That is how DS needs to analyze this situation. And if he thinks yes there would have been more wins - then you go get him because down the stretch we need to score runs to win. A bat like Machado let’s that happen more consistently.

I don't know about the rest of you but this losing streak has taken a lot of the fun out of the Machado thing for me.

It’s been a tough stretch for sure. The offense has been one of the problem though and Machado helps that greatly. I also don’t think the offense has been that bad. We haven’t scored runs, but we have consistently been putting guys on base. We just haven’t gotten the big hit at all. We get Machado and that is 4 All Stars in the line-up.

Sometimes everything is going right at the sometimes and sometimes it is all going wrong. It’s way to early for people to be giving up on the season...that is panicking. They are doing exactly what they don’t want to see Stearns do...a bit ironic.

Unfortunately we can’t wait it out to find out because the Machado deadline is at the end of the break. Or maybe it is fortunate because if we get him it will happen sooner than it might if the Orioles wanted to wait it out to the deadline. Could be a bad or good thing.

If Stearns passes on Machado because the price is too high, fine. He will make moves to help the team that he feels are acceptable prices. If he makes no moves...well, the team better just flop in the last couple months. Can’t barely miss the postseason two years in a row in my opinion.

If we get Machado, Britton (if the package rumor comes to fruition), and a controllable starter that in my opinion is a great haul for us at the deadline.

Stearns will bring in someone big. He has to. He can't quit on this team two years in a row.

I hope you're right and think you probably are but come on... Stearns is a massive reason this team is where it is.

Rough day for the #Brewers who drop doubleheader to #Pirates and now have lost five straight games. No surprise they’re the most aggressive team in Manny Machado sweepstakes

#Dodgers remain in mix for Machado, sources tell The Athletic. #Brewers in consistent contact with #Orioles; #Phillies as well. Yankees seem less involved. Talks fluid. BAL’s internal politics make nothing a sure thing.

Trading Burnes now, an important addition to our bullpen recently, would be foolish. It appears that we need Burnes on this roster right now. I can't imagine DS trading a piece that is now playing with the big boys and contributing.

Burnes better not be traded, he just, he just better not...
