NL MVP Race

Wasn't there a thread about this a few months ago? Nobody else even comes close to Davis's consistency for batting average over a 4-year span. I think the next most consistent was a guy whose batting average fluctuated from his 4-year average by .018 or something.

Good catch. I'll move my post over there since Davis will not be winning the MVP :devil

Yelich 2013-17 | 290/369/432 | 122 wRC+

Yelich pre-ASB | 292/364/459 | 122 wRC+

Yelich post-ASB | 364/444/776 | 220 wRC+

The last person to post a 2nd half wRC+ of 220 was Barry Bonds in 2004 when he went 359/589/832 for a 234 WRC+.

How many times has Yelich been tested since the All Star break? Serious question.

286 Second half PAs for Yelich. Bonds was 292 PAs in 2004.

Harper's prophecy fulfilling first half in 2015 was 339/464/704 in 343 PAs for a 211 wRC+ as another point of recent reference.

EDIT: was reading too fast & saw "been tested" as "batted".

One scenario that is possible that would really suck...

Yelich finishes the day first in all 3 Triple Crown categories. Brewers win and Cubs lose, which prevents Game 163. However, the Dodgers and Rockies are forced to play Game 163 and either Story or Arenado passes Yelich in HR or RBI tomorrow. They are close enough that it would be possible.

Still trying to find out what part of this sucks.

Me too. I mean, a triple crown would be kinda cool, but not division championship and MVP cool.

I think it's a shame that Baez plays for the Cubs. As a player, he's someone I really should like and find fun to watch. Yet I don't, and I wish I did.

We need to contain Baez at the plate. Can't let him beat us, or add anything for the MVP ballot.

We can't prevent him from making "one of a kind tags that only he can accomplish", but we should be careful when he's at the plate.

Exactly how I feel about him.

I love watching Baez play. He's one of my personal favorite players in the majors.

Just need to not run into outs at 2B. Luckily, Sedar only gets people gunned at 3B/home. :) /halfblue

A Cub player as a personal favorite?

What has this place become?

National expose. HUGE game for both teams.

It probably shouldn't, but could it actually come down to who plays better today between Yelich and Baez?

I doubt it. Unless one carries their offense and team to a huge win. I bet neither will get such a chance.

Today better not matter for this. WAR isnt that close. BA, OBP, OPS are not even close. Only thing close is counting stats and slugging. Yes Baez is a better defender but WAR factors that in. Baez is a really good player but Yelich has simply been better

I'm not a fan and it has nothing to do with being a Cub. He is just too much of a showboat, those kind of guys really bug me.

All baez has left is that he can tag people and 1 rbi! Yelich or we riot!
