I think it was Happ that batted, who was replaced by Gore.

Didnt they used to hold batting gloves to not leave fingers vulnerable in head first slides?

Sometimes guys do that to prevent them from extending their fingers in a head first slide and risking broken fingers or other injuries

Huh, I have played and watched a lot of baseball in my life, but never knew that was a thing. I’ve obviously seen plenty of guys take off and hold their batting gloves, but it seemed strange for a pinch runner to have them in his hands... but apparently that’s a thing with an actual reason for it. Thanks!
