What's bugging you? [2019]

Did anyone catch The Little Mermaid Live on Tuesday? My wife was hugely disappointed as ABC merely spliced in some live musical numbers into the original animated film. Only ~20% was actually live.

My wife recorded it. Then she saw all the negative reviews and wasn't even sure that she would watch it. She ended up watching it and said she enjoyed it.

We started watching it with our young son last night and it was better than our initial impression. Maybe 60/40 animated vs. live.

I don't understand why we need DST.

Not sure if you mean you don't understand why we need DST or why we need to switch back and forth twice a year. As discussed above, if states start switching to just one time all year round, it's seems more logical to go with DST over ST.

I think we should just leave it as one time and not switch.

It works great in AZ that we stay STD year round. We don’t want more evening sun in summer. It’s. Weird in Montana that it’s twilight at 10:30pm in late June. They probably should be STD year round as well.

I read an interesting idea a couple years ago that perhaps we should have eastern time change back one hour and pacific forward one hour, and just go with two time zones. with how interconnected the world is these days, it would make a lot more sense for business.

It depends on where in the time zone you are. For eastern WI, you're on the eastern part of the Central time zone (changes in Indiana/Michigan), so the sun will rise earlier and set earlier than if you're in the middle of Nebraska, where you're on the western edge of the time zone. I spent a summer in Lincoln, NE, and it would still be light until 10pm.

Having two time zones would amplify the problem. The sun would rise and set about two hours difference between NYC and Dallas. The curve of the Earth is why there are time zones.

Depends on the problem. Sunlight too early or too late might be your problem, but working in the west based on east coast markets could be a different problem. People in California working in the financial industry have to be at work at 5:30 to prep for the markets opening. A 2-time zone country would alleviate some business challenges. Even some of the jet lag would be mitigated. Governments arbitrarily choose their timezones and don't simply do them every 15º of longitude as one might mathematically expect. Heck, there's even several half timezones in the world.

My only peeve is that my devices always seem to think I'm in Mountain-Denver whenever I switch time zones, but I should be in Mountain-Phoenix. I frequently have to toggle my phone location

The yelling lady/laughing cat meme. Ok, enough already.

Ill be honest. I had no idea what this was until I heard it mentioned on the radio this morning. I never looked it up, but found this pretty funny meme of a lady on one side talking about Sydney Crosby and a cat on the other. I sent it to some friends. Giggled. Then I saw your post here and thought, oh yea, I want to see what that meme was so I don't use it. Looked it up...sure enough. I just used it.

It's kind of hard to laugh at an abused woman so yeah I hate it too.

I deleted my post. I actually watched the scene to see what it was all about but the audio was bad and it started right in the middle of it so I didn't get the full context.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I have to go to Madison next Monday to get my work computer updated. An IT guy has to visit the other offices (Madison/Chicago) once a month...many of the Madison based people are remote. You would think they would communicate so the IT guy visits when we all come into the office anyway. Nope, he usually comes a few days before/after us. We were all just there a few weeks ago and will be there a few weeks after this for the annual party. Probably could have been scheduled for then, but thus, what do I know.

So moral of the story a handful of people have to drive 3 or so hours at about $500 per person in costs...to update their computer.

Had no idea what this was about either, so had to google it. But, eh...seems like a reality show with a lot of over the top made for TV drama.

Link to Meme Origin

Yeah...that's basically what I saw when I Googled it. Just not getting Outlander's take on the woman. She was in a drama filled reality show that is probably mostly fake.

She was really abused and she was angry her abusive husband would see her talking about it on tv and feared her life and more abuse. Her then husband committed suicide before the episode aired. There was a fairly long gap between filming and airing of the show. So not a real good time in her life but that was like 8 years ago at this point.

I just picked my winter coat up from the cleaner’s and the bill was $40. I had guessed it would be around $25. Could have probably just bought a new one for $100.

Call me an old man, but I'm just not a fan of memes in general. Either too corny (coming from a corny person), too stupid, or feeding off of stereotypes.

The exception to that rule is the Malort one.

Because if you've ever been duped into having a shot of Malort, you know that's exactly how you react.

TESLA is such a joke and that pickup truck is the biggest one yet. When will people realize the products suck, all he does is disappoint on promises, and just keep churning out idea after idea with no successes.

They have the highest satisfaction of all auto brands. When surveyed, more people say they would buy the car again than buyers of any other make. I'm not going to buy one. I absolutely love my GM products. If I switched to another make, it'd be Toyota. I'd never be caught dead owning a European car, especially after all the problems my family has had with BMWs and Mercedes. But that's my opinion.

I think what Musk and Tesla are doing is admirable. Yes, part of his schtick is excessive promotion, but the same goes for many other CEOs. He understands hype. But he's a visionary in an industry that's pretty boring at times

I've been driving for 38 years, and have never owned a foreign car of any kind. I always took pride in the fact I was supporting the good old USA in my car purchases.

In August, we purchased a Subaru Crosstrek for my wife. (The Crosstreks are built in Japan)

So far, the car has been excellent.

What bugs me is that I can no longer say I have never owned a foreign car.

Subaru's are very nice cars.
