I just can't see Thames as a part of the opening day roster. At this point, we may have to dump him for nothing, maybe a minor league flyer from a team needing a DH or 1B.

 

There is just no room at the inn for him any longer.

 

I never want to see him in the OF again...………………….EVER! Keeping his roster space for a start at 1B every 2 weeks seems like a waste, and I have zero faith in him as a pinch hitter.

 

I sincerely hope Stearns can trade him for something.

This move also adds depth. In case of injury the lineup will still be very solid. The Brewers 40 man is very solid. I think it is a great move.

My only disappointment with this is that it probably shuts the door on any chance we were going to sign Marwin Gonzalez.

 

But as others said, as far as fit and familiarity and maximizing our lineup, not much not to like.

 

This is also a case of a rental turning into more than a rental. Had we not traded for Moose chances are this deal doesn't happen.

I couldn't agree more! Thames is a whiff artist (almost 33%) and is horrible in the OF. He is an HR. or nothing hitter and useless against LH pitching. With Shaw an option at 1B, Thames is of no use to the Crew. They should try and trade him even if they have to pay part of his salary. A straight salary dump.

Gamel should start when there are injuries to outfield. Not Perez or Thames.

I hope Shaw spent the winter taking ground balls at second and working on his pivot.

 

I'm not a big fan of Moose (don't hate him either) but I'm OK with this move only because it puts Shaw at 2B instead of Flotsam and Jetsam.

 

I would have preferred a real 2B (Murphy, Dozier, Cabrera, or Walker) with Shaw at 3B though.

Thames starts the season like Barry Bonds every year, why in the world would we cut him for nothing now?

 

Not to mention that if Thames merely repeats his Brewers performance to date he should be starting over Aguilar.

Any start for him in LF negates anything he can offer with the bat. He is a hack in the OF. We have any number of guys that would be a better option than Thames in the OF if Braun goes down with a long injury.

Didn’t seem to hurt them in August, September, & October and worked pretty well. Is Shaw great at 2nd now so I could see fit not being as good as a true 2B but with shifts still a major part of Brewers approach, that doesn’t matter much.

 

I’d DH goes into play in 2020 & he hits as he has over career that mutual option could improve hit more

If that DH goes into effect in 2020, I would surely think that Braun would be our primary DH.

Or maybe Aguilar gets hurt, shows he needs to sit more often this year against righties, or is completely ineffective all around, in which case I'll be happy we didn't drop Thames for peanuts. Unless the return is actually useful, I'll hold onto Thames.

Yeah I don’t quite get it either. Deepest team we’ve had in a long while. People were frustrated with the OF “jam” of 2018 too. It’s great to have all these options.

Nope ... you bring Albers in and see if he is the 2017 and early 2018 version. Easy move is Suter to the 60-day. I am 99.9% sure that will be the move they make.

I think there's a strong possibility that we don't see Hiura until rosters expand now.
