Gatewood's Walk-Off Homer Lifts Biloxi To 3-2 Win Over Jackson

Shuckers Infielder Becomes All-Time Home Run Leader in Shuckers History with 32nd Career Home Run

By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers

We know it's been a tough season, so big smile from and for Jake.

You realized what a big part LF Cooper Hummel played when you read the summary - at the plate and in the field.

San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes

***

Box: San Antonio 10, Omaha 4

Missions beat Storm Chasers 10-4

***

Trent Grisham, playing LF, on base five times - in 32 games at AAA: .349/.438/.698 (1.137 OPS), six SB in seven attempts. .966 OPS combined AAA/AA in 2019.

Jacob Nottingham on base four times as the DH.

As is often the case with the mix-and-match Missions bullpen, four innings of spotless (one walk) work to get Trey Supak the win in his AAA debut.

Welcome to the AAA baseball, Trey:

HR: Brett Phillips (13, 1st inning off Supak, 0 on, 1 out); Fernandez, X (3, 2nd inning off Supak, 1 on, 2 out); Bonifacio (17, 3rd inning off Supak, 0 on, 2 out).

Speaking of hurts --

Box: Grand Junction 10, Rocky Mountain 9, ten innings

Alternative box includes inning-by-inning linescore

Vibes led 9-2 at the 7th inning stretch.

Eight errors by the Rockies, including four by their shortstop:

E: Horn (1, pickoff); Isaacs (1, fielding); Carreras 4 (12, throw, throw, throw, throw); Koss (3, throw); Navarro (10, throw).

RHP Carlos Luna is 6th in the Pioneer League in WHIP at 1.17.

Jess Williams played first base for the first time in his pro career (in Ernesto Martinez' absence after Friday's on-field collision injury). Williams was 4-for-5 with a home run.

No formal summary from the Vibes' perspective, but on top of it all, they were walked off in the rain.

The losing streak ends at ten in fun fashion!!

Box: DSL Brewers/Indians 6, DSL Pirates #1 Squad 5

Of course, it was a "hitless" rally.

DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 9th

Angel Bautista walks.

Elian Gonzalez out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Raul Mora to first baseman Rafael Escalante. Angel Bautista to 2nd.

Wild pitch by pitcher Raul Mora. Angel Bautista to 3rd.

Raul Mora intentionally walks Francisco Gonzalez.

Raul Mora intentionally walks Jose Baez. Francisco Gonzalez to 2nd.

Jeicor Cristian out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Jose Berroa. Angel Bautista scores.

Cristian walked twice and drove in a second run as well, so that's a fantastically productive 0-for-1 with a K.

The co-op club committed four errors and no one performance stood out, but they won!

Final: AZL Brewers Blue 2, AZL Mariners 0

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

Shutout #6 for the blues and win #3 in a row for the scorching-hot 13-19 team. The offense scored two runs in the top of the second and that's all the runs that would be scored by either side. Andre Nnebe singled twice and Caleb Marquez singled in both of the runs.

Antoine Kelly, Henry Medina, and Jake Cousins combined on the two-hitter. A scout told me that Kelly was "97 and nasty" in his outing. Have not heard if Kelly has started throwing a changeup yet or not. Also not clear is how long he'll be in the AZL. Don't think it would be the worst idea to let him dominate there all summer, skip Rocky Mountain and see him in Wisconsin next spring.

Medina has quietly had a good summer as well. After toiling in the DSL for three years with good ERAs but poor strikeout totals, Medina has seen his K rate tick up in the AZL. Have not heard a report on his stuff.

AZL Brewers Blue Game Log

All the runs:

AZL Brewers Blue Top of the 2nd

Andre Nnebe singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jepherson Garcia.

Luis Silva reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by second baseman Caleb Ricca. Andre Nnebe to 2nd.

Arbert Cipion flies out to center fielder Antoine Mistico.

Throwing error by pitcher Christian Pedrol.

Caleb Marquez singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jepherson Garcia. Andre Nnebe scores. Luis Silva scores.

Victor Vargas strikes out swinging and Caleb Marquez caught stealing 2nd, catcher Freuddy Batista to shortstop Osiris Castillo.

I feel like I've made this post multiple times, but Antoine Kelly was supposed to be raw, right?

Also, is it weird that I'm getting kind of psyched for Bowden Francis?

The thing that scouts have to do is project what kids could do with better coaching (and sometimes whether those kids are open to coaching). Sometimes they assume that college players are finished products, but if they take to coaching, make a couple of adjustments, they become legitimate prospects.
