Ryon Healy to Brewers

Why would anyone gripe with this signing? You just don’t make sense if you do. This is a depth signing and a good one. Not every signing is life and death for the Brewers. Have some perspective every once in awhile.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I took a quick look at his statcast data. He seemed to have gotten pretty unlucky last year. His number indicate a guy hitting closer to 825 ops than 750. That's not good enough at 1b, but if he can improve at 3b defensively in AAA for a couple months...we might have a future 3b for a couple prime years

Stearns just can't help himself on his way out of Walmart(where he does all of his FA shopping), he HAS to grab something off the clearance rack too.

Yeah, we got the joke.

C'mon, you have to admit, it is a 100% spot on analogy. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

You've been warned not to bring this payroll stuff into every thread. Now you're bringing it into a thread for a fourth string corner infielder destined for AAA. See you next week.

Does this move mean that we are taking offers for Cain, or that we are moving Hiura to 3rd? Or is that 14 player, 5 team trade that involves us trading Lutz twice back on the menu? I've lost track on the transaction rumor master plan flowchart...

This master plan flowchart always ends up with Jeff McNeil.

I think it's only possible to win with big names and big money.

As long as he spends more time in the minors than the majors this is ok. If not, I'd much rather have gambled on Travis Shaw having a bounce back.

Bargain bin for spring training fine. What I don't understand is why Thames was shown the door still. Rework his deal and work him and Braun at first. Garcia plays the outfield against lefties. Makes sense to me.

People really think we are signing or acquiring a different starting 3B?

I mean, besides Jeff McNeil?

Yep. No doubt in my mind. Healy was not signed to start at 3B. I’d make a pretty sizable wager on that.

And what’s wrong with Jeff McNeil? That bat would look pretty dang nice in this lineup

For all we know the Brewers have an offer out to Thames, and he’s just holding out a bit to see if there is any more interest. The 1B market hasn’t exactly gotten going yet.

I seem to recall a certain poster bringing up his name as early as October. Where's my finder's fee David? Somebody tell his agent "You're welcome"

When you going to bring up the million times you were wrong after the fact? :laughing

Finder’s fee is in the same desk drawer as Scooter Gennett’s extension paperwork. ;)

I think the message is to stick to discussion of the Healy transaction. Practically every thread around here has gone completely off the rails lately.

His nickname is the Mayor of Dongtown

Uhhh....

Knowing that, I really hope he has a great spring and makes the team! I really want to see what the souvenir is on "Mayor of Dongtown" appreciation day!!! :laughing :embarrassed :laughing

On the plus side, this Winter's trades have shown who needs to be on the IGT ignore list for 2020!

Healy is the definition of "just a guy". I'd wager the chances of him seeing more than 100 PA's in Milwaukee are entirely contingent on multiple guys getting hurt. I'm not super excited about the possibility of him getting a lot of playing time, but at the same time, there's worse options out there for backup plans. You can't just stash a bunch of proven, 2-3-4 WAR guys in AAA in case all your starters go down. That's just not how it works.

Healy hits for a decent bit of power, plays both corners, and uh.... yeah. :) He's AAA filler. Let's not get too up in arms about this.

Depth move to backup both corners. His statcast numbers are pretty decent too, even in an injury-plagued 2019. So perhaps they see some upside there too. And no, this is not the final piece of the 1B/3B puzzle. At least one more player will be acquired for the major league roster; if it's just one it'll be a LHH 1B (And maybe 3B), but it could be more than one.
