No. But since Prime gives you other extras (shipping, music, etc..), it is a good deal anyway.

We had Prime for the shipping since we use Amazon a lot. The channel is a bonus for us but they have some good shows - Fabulous Mrs Maisel, Bosch, are good. The Boys is very good.

We use Prime for movies more than TV series. They rotate movies fairly often and if you are looking for one specific, rentals for everything is available. And if you delay your shipments on occasion, you can bank electronic media $$ to pay for the rentals.

We recently got a new iPhone and can receive one year of Apple TV. We already subscribe to Disney, Netflix, YoutubeTV and Prime (via various children, etc.). Is AppleTV a good service?

I have a free year subscription to it for the same reason. It's a newer service so there's not a ton of original content yet.

 

When scrolling the list of their included content I did see a fair amount of children's shows, I don't have kids so I didn't study them closely but there was one Charlie Brown special on there (The Great Pumpkin). There was also a Fraggle Rock show. Again, I didn't look that close.

 

I've only watched one Apple TV+ original on it so far, Greyhound starring Tom Hanks, it's a WW2 movie where Hanks is a US captain on a destroyer escorting merchant supply ships across the Atlantic to protect them from German U-boats that are trying to sink them. It was a good solid movie I'd say 3.5 stars out of 5. Good action, perhaps a little light on character development outside of Hanks', it's pretty clear his role is where 99% of the focus went (which is understandable, he's Tom friggin Hanks after all) and the side characters remain fairly unexplored and two dimensional.

 

Otherwise it's similar to Amazon Prime. Some content is included for free with the subscription but you can also rent or buy movies.

 

I wouldn't pay for it because it's nowhere near as robust as Netflix or Amazon Prime at this point but since it's free there's no harm. It's easy enough to cancel so that you don't get charged when the year expires. If you don't even want to go that far and just skip the free trial you probably aren't missing much.

 

Yea AppleTV+ doesn't have much. But I stumbled across The Morning Show, that was actually pretty good. Just started Tehran, and that's been good too so far.

Just got an email that Hulu Live is dropping Fox Sports Wisconsin since they were unable to come up with an agreement with Sinclair. Are there any streaming services left that offer Fox Sports Wisconsin?

AT&T is the last one standing. $80 a month with the extended sports package you'd need to get it.

That’s a huge bummer.

 

I checked AT&T and (at least for me) it quoted at $70 for the first 12 months and for the second year they get you for $110. This being the price for the Choice package that is needed for regional sports (and has BTN).

Not sure what I'm going to do for the Brewers on TV next season now. Hopefully between now and the start of the season an agreement can be reached and we'll switch to that service. Liking YoutubeTV so far...except for no Brewers stuff now.

Watching "Trapped" series now. It's outstanding.

 

Patriot is best series nobody has heard of.

 

Goliath, first two seasons, Bosch, and Sneaky Pete all worth watching. There's a decent amount of really good stuff on Amazon, that's just off the top of my head.

Living in Chicago, and now LA, I have been able to watch the Brewers for free the last 2 years because I get a free MLB account through T-Mo. It's been awesome.

I wouldn’t be optimistic. Many other services lost Fox before Hulu did...none have revived it.

MLB and/or the teams themselves are going to have to step in I think on this. The contract with Sinclair I'm sure indicates that the channel needs to be offered to a certain number of people in the home market, and not having it available anywhere would be a breach of contract. I personally home Sinclair burns for this. It is utterly terrible. It is easy to blame both sides when these carriage disagreements happen with one carrier. But when nearly every one of them drops the channel, that's on the channel's ownership. What joke.

Do the Brewers even have a TV deal for this upcoming season? Their last contract was supposed to be last season. Haven't really seen anything on a new contract either

They very well might. Not exactly something that gets announced. Usually it gets uncovered after the fact and the contract details are just based on rumors.

Their deal ended after this season so they will have to negotiate something before the start of the 2021 season. I'm sure they already are working on it.

 

One note with Sinclair: In the news articles talking about how they lost money on the Fox RSNs and had to write down their value by half it mentions that when the Royals renegotiated their deal with Sinclair they received part ownership. Sinclair has also indicated they are open to similar arrangements. I'm thinking - or hoping at least - that a similar situation could happen with the Brewers.

I was speculating that maybe the best option for the Brewers going forward would be to go with a streaming service like Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, etc... They could even work with the Marlins and split the contract between the two teams if they wanted to or even add more teams the only issue would be with the league and its rules with streaming services but with streaming services being more popular with the younger generation it really makes sense for MLB to allow for its teams to move away from the TV contracts and instead sign with a streaming service.

What would the logistics be if they just went to MLB app with no blackout restrictions? Wouldn't that be the best for everyone? Or would they have to raise the prices to make it profitable enough for the teams? I love MLB tv but it's worked because I've been out of market. I really dislike how much the regional channels have been causing issues with so many services. Like many of you, I lost mine in MN this fall. Doesn't bother me too much right now, but I do like to watch the occasional T-Wolves or Twins game. Hoping they get it worked out again, but it won't kill me not to have it. If I lived in WI, I'd be having major issues!
