Phillies will do everything they can to make the playoffs. If they miss out I expect the front office to be cleaned out. I don't know their minor league system at all but thats the type of team that would overpay for Hader.

Alec Bohm would look terrific in Brewers colors

Wow, that seems like a perfect trade for both teams.

I think it’d also have to include some lower level guys but yes, this would be great.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Per Alex Speier... Sources: Red Sox are finalizing trade with the Phillies. Believe both Hembree and Workman are involved.

EDIT: Ken Rosenthal confirms the deal details... Deal official: Workman, Hembree and cash to Phillies for pitchers Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold.

How does one socially distance but also hug?

Apparently the answer is they don’t. Here is Tommy La Stella 10 minutes ago after learning he’d been traded to the A’s...

#OldFriend Tommy Milone just dealt from the Orioles to the Braves. The Braves continue to grab every warm body they can for their rotation, rather than give their supposed long list of high end starting pitching prospects a shot. Tells me all I need to know about the Braves starting pitching prospects.

Busy morning so far on the trade front. The most recent is former Cardinals OF/DH Jose Martinez was traded from the Rays to the Cubs (for two PTBNL). He has a career 153 wRC+ against LHP. In this season with the universal DH, Martinez likely has more value than he would to an NL team during a normal season.

Jose Martinez would have been a very good guy for us to get if the price was low.

Yeah, that .717 OPS would have fit right in.

He is a better hitter than Mathias, Sogard, or Peterson and has been a proven masher against lefties. Depending on what it cost to get him he would be an upgrade in this lineup.

Nah. Just woulda clogged a spot on the active roster. Plus the lineup has seemingly already been better against lefties than righties.

Ken Rosenthal reporting that the Dbacks are open to trading CF Starling Marte. Here are some of his contract details (per Rosenthal)...

Marte, batting .322 with an .856 OPS, owed about $1.75M for rest of season with $12.5M club option for 2021.

If the Brewers decide to 'buy' and acquire an actual CF, with an eye towards next year as well, Marte would be as good of an acquisition as they could feasibly do. No idea what cost would look like...

Why would we give up a ton in a trade for a position we already have covered next year? (you guys do remember Lorenzo Cain, right?)

I'm not sure it's wise to count on then 35-year old Lorenzo Cain for anything, considering he already wasn't very good last year and has now basically missed an entire season.

Obviously, it would also depend on what 'a ton' looks like. The Pirates basically traded him for two low-minors, high-upside lottery tickets earlier this year, so it's probably not excessive cost....

This would work if the DH would stay in the NL for next year which I think it would. Cain CF, Marte LF, Garcia RF and Yelich at DH. The OF defense would improve with Marte in LF over Yelich though it wouldn't be by all that much. Marte hasn't played RF and I believe he doesn't have the arm to play RF so he is a CF or LF only which would be fine if you want to play Marte in CF when Cain needs a day off or two.

I think an Ashby, Lutz and Taylor package should get this trade done. Maybe just Lutz and Ashby or Lutz and Taylor could also be enough.

So we would then have Cain as an expensive back-up CF for the next 2 years at 15 million per year?

I think we all knew that contract was going to be an issue after his first 2 seasons, true, but replacing him over a 1B and/or 3B seems to be not high on the priority list as long as his defense is still good.

UGH, no way I trade that package for Marte. just no way.

So what about Hiura then? He slots into our every day job at 2B? If anyone on this team should be the full time DH it's him.

Ashby could be a future top of the rotation guy for us, and everyone is always thowing Lutz into these deals, which I don't understand why. Ashby and Lutz are guys I don't want to trade.
