Doesn't really work that way though. They had a drive going and it stalled and that may not have happened if they kick the FG. They wouldn't have had to go 95 yards. The Packers got a stop, got the ball back and scored a touchdown.

 

It ultimately had no negative effect.

It would look *marginally* better. Either way, if the 49ers score a touchdown to start the 2nd half, they would still need another touchdown to take the lead in two possessions.

It feels like San Fran got about 8 tries from inside the 5.

The score remained 10-0 and the Packers got the ball back in no small part because the Niners had to go 95 yards.

 

You can't just tack 3 points on the score at half or at the end and say an isolated decision was a mistake. The flow of the game changes after a decision like that.

 

In the sequence we're discussing the Packers wound up netting +7. Could they have kicked the FG, gotten the stop and gone up 20-0? Maybe. But it's also possible SF gets 3 or 7 if we let them start a drive at the 25 or take a kick back.

I don’t think you start counting number of scores up like that until later in the game, just like you don’t go for 2 until the risk/reward is clearer.

We gave up like 7 extra yard after contact on 1st and 2nd down and then they can just sneak on 3rd. Ugh now the floodgates open

How was that not intentional grounding on the play before the TD? Didn’t make it back to the LOS and no eligible receiver anywhere close to the ball.
