His ERA is north of 4.

It is 3.70 for his career, but 4.02 as a starter.

Everyone always loves to talk about how hitting is down so much and we need to account for that when talking about stats and lower hitting numbers are the new norm and then we talk about Adrian Houser and then he's awesome because of his ERA.

I meant 3.30 ERA over the last two years exclusively as a starter. As I said, that's as good as it gets for a #5 starter. Unless you think our rotation should/can be comprised of nothing but Aces....

BA got really excited about a dink single

Probably a top 10 play of the last week.

I mentioned cutting Cain a month ago and was told you can't cut a guy with his glove and clubhouse presence. Anyone ready to make the move now??

Yep

What makes this so hard to watch there is just hardly any hard contact. Bottom of the ninth last night 3 walks no hits of course no runs. It seems lately we will get a hit with two outs and of course we can't string any together.  Very frustrating !

I'd first fabricate an injury. Let him take 2 weeks off, then "rehab" in Arizona and see if he can be playable again.

On the bright side, looks like the Brewers will be in first for at least one more day, as the Cards are getting shellacked by the Rays tonight.

Weak division is the saving grace.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

The problem with everyone saying we need Willy back is he's now hitting 200.

with 9HR and an OPS of .749. That's healthy compared to most of our hitters.

For all the complaining about McCutchen hitting cleanup (and he shouldn't be! Make no mistake) Tyler O'Neill and his .607 OPS and 2 homeruns have hit either 3rd or 4th for the Cardinals 26 times, and he's hitting cleanup tonight.

Probably a little more upside there.

I'd guess probably 99 people out of 100 would rather have Adames up in a clutch situation over Pablo Reyes.  Yes, he's hitting .200, but the opportunity for an XBH is there, whereas Reyes just doesn't have that pop.

I guess the point is not about the upside (and I agree), but the point that the managers have both been slow to react to make changes with their lineups.  Counsell should move McCutchen somewhere..... O'Neill shouldn't be hitting cleanup at this point. We aren't the only team that's got struggling guys hitting in key spots.  Like someone said yesterday, the Rays had Kevin Keirmaier hitting cleanup.  Ooof.

And at .607 hes still having a better year.

It's all about the upside. One player can reasonably be expected to improve sufficiently, while the other is clearly on the decline.

Phillies have been a disappointment and there is no doubt they have work to do but looking at the lineup give me them in a playoff series over the Crew right now. They have dangerous bats that do big damage in big spots. Brewers are pitching rich and need to barter to get some fast.
