The DSL Brewers 1 and 2 face off for the second time this week. And, some excellent shutdown pitching is happening throughout. Good stuff down South!

20 yo Dominican RHP Jeral Vizcaino grabs the DSL Brewers 2 victory going 4 complete innings of no hit, 1 walk, 5 strikeout ball. He came aboard in the 3rd inning with the Brewers 2 trailing 1-0 and proceeded to close the game in shutdown fashion. Vizcaino moves to 2-1 on the year in 18 innings pitched over eight outings (1 Start). After today's outing, his numbers are becoming increasingly impressive: 21k:8bb, 0.145 BAA, 0.94 WHIP, 3.00 ERA.

On the other side of the diamond, and pitching wonderfully for the DSL Brewers 1, 17 yo 6'3" Dominican Lefty Wande Torres gets the no decision - a chance at victory ended when fellow Domincan RHP Gregory Baez surrendered 3 runs in his inning of work; walking two to start and throwing a wild pitch for good measure. Whereas Baez has scuffled over his 7 plus innings of relief work to date, Torres remains upward trending and another arm to watch - 17 years old, lefty, decent k:bb ratio (23:11), hitters only batting 0.182, a respectable 1.25 WHIP, and now a sub-4 era at 3.93 after five complete shut out innings today (2 hits, 2 walks, 3 k's) .

The game appears to have been ended early (?): after the Brewers 2 plated 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth the Brewers 1 were never given a chance to answer back in the top-half of the seventh. All three runs came via a Juan Baez (playing 3B today) single hit to short (after the runners had advanced to 2nd and 3rd via the aforementioned Baez wild pitch). Yeison Perez (1B and RF today) then hit a sacrifice fly. And, the game was over or called - it's hard to tell.

DSL Brewers2 is now 5-0 against DSL Brewers1 on the season and they’re scheduled to face off two more times this month. No such intra-organization DSL clashes scheduled for August though.

I've got some moments before my daughter's dance recital and I know for a fact @damuelle was putting his kiddos to bed (the dedication is palpable, folks), so I am going to jump the proverbial gun:

The Micro Brews look to build off of yesterday's victory. A six-game skid in their rearview mirror, they'll go for two straight victories riding the Mike Fiers-esque toolkit of RHP Edwin Jimenez. Of note: OF Hedbert Perez remains out of the line-up after a mysterious exit running out a routine grounder to second base. Did he tweak that left leg as I casually surmised?

We shift to the 'Where is Tyler Black?" in our Timber Rattler ongoing speculative Missing in Action 'report'. Where the heck is he after all? Man oh man, the key injuries in Wisconsin continue. LHP rising prospect Russell Smith takes the hill hoping for another dominant outing (well, I sure as heck hope he continues his run of excellence). Up-and-comer, OF Tristan Peters mans the clean-up spot for a second night as the Timber Rattlers look to take the series lead.

AAA Nashville has lost 3 close games in a row, the last two at home against Memphis to put them down 2-0 in this week's series. RHP Josh Lindblom (3.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 77 2/3 innings) makes his 16th appearance of 2022, aiming to right the ship. Great things happen when DH/LF Abraham Almonte (.939 OPS in 189 plate appearances) is in the lineup:

AA Biloxi is in a funk, losing 4 in a row including the first 2 games of their series in Tennessee. But the good news is that LHP Brandon Knarr (3.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 in 31 AA innings) is on the mound tonight. And offensively, the offense remains strong, with CF Sal Frelick hitting safely in 16 of his last 17 games (.919 OPS over this stretch):

Carolina grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning on three singles and an Oswal Leones 2-run homer.

Wisconsin fell behind 2-0, but put up 4 runs of their own in the 3rd inning, with the key hit being a Wes Clarke 2-run single.

Man the defense from our AA outfielders is impressive

Very good to see, considering how much we've invested in that outfield in terms of recent draft picks.

I'll start the rumor mill and say he is the key piece to a trade. May be the best player in the system that the Brewers would be willing to move for a rental.

According to this article (https://www.ballysports.com/wisconsin/news/brewers-outfield-prospect-tristan-peters-providing-pop-for-timber-rattlers), he injured himself while making a diving catch on July 10th and came out of the game.

Certainly hope he isn't traded, I think Black has the best MLB-regular potential of anyone on the TRats roster, aside from maybe Antoine Kelly.

From the J/S today

“Then we have Sal, who’s in Double-A already and one of the fastest guys in that class to get there and he’s performed well there. (Competitive Balance A pick) Tyler Black was doing really well and unfortunately he’s dinged up now, but he was hitting like we thought he would at Wisconsin and he was showing some defensive versatility, going out to play in center field pretty well.

Thanks for the updates on Tyler Black, gents. That’s more like it: dinged up laying out. Sounds right up his alley. Completely agreed on Tyler: his game is tailor-made for MLB action. He is just different when it comes to how he carries himself on the field. I absolutely want him in our system and ultimately in Milwaukee - you could very easily make the argument he has the most upside of any INF currently in the Full-Season pool of players.

I also like Peters, but yeah I'd put Black a little ahead of him. Definitely hope he stays in the Milwaukee system.

Also, great to see Mitchell back in the Biloxi lineup.
