Wisconsin needs a victory to salvage a 4-2 series loss at West Michigan. RHP James Meeker (3.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 8.5 K/9 in 36 innings) will make his 2nd start in 24 appearances this year. 22-year old 2B Jose Acosta (.763 OPS in 105 Rattler plate appearances) continues to be a pleasant addition:

Frelick having himself quite the day so far. 4-4 with a homerun and we’re only in the 6th.

Serious question.  With Frelick now in the .320 range this year, getting on base and playing better and better, is he a candidate to skip AAA altogether and get a 2nd half callup given the hole in CF on the big club?

I doubt anyone here is qualified to answer that question…….it certainly does not seem to fit with the organizational philosophy so I doubt it……but it would be exciting.

Regarding Frelick - I could see a move up to Nashville soon but the Brewers don’t promote prospects from AA to the big leagues. Would be fun but not happening.

Posted

Jeferson Quero three for five with two doubles, Jesus Chirinos with a dinger & a single, and Hedbert Perez with a bomb & a base on balls about the only highlights as Carolina falls 10-4.

Posted

Jose Acosta (2-4, 3B, BB), Zavier Warren (1-3, 2B, BB), Joe Gray Jr. (2-4, BB) and Tristan Peters (2-5, HR) rattled some timber, as it were.

James Meeker (4 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K) and Christian Tripp (2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K) started the game strong on the mound, but the pen couldn’t hold on as Wisconsin lost 5-4.

In addition to the aforementioned Sal Frelick heroics, Andruw Monasterio (2-4, HR, BB), Thomas Dillard (1-5, 2B) and Cam Devanney (2-5, 2 HR) chipped in on offense.

Meanwhile, in a pretty true bullpen game, seven Shuckers hurlers held the Smokies to 1 run & 3 hits with Zach Vennaro (1.1 IP | 3 K) getting the W while Robbie Hitt (1 IP | 2 K) finished things off.

Nashville prevailed in a 10-8 slugfest with Tyler White, Wes Wilson & Brian Navaretto all having multi hit games including a bomb each, while Tyrone Taylor collected three singles in four trips to the plate.

Sounds also went bullpen game with Zack Brown (2 K), Peter Strzelecki (2 BB | 1 K), Alec Bettinger and Trevor Kelly tossing scoreless frames.

Regarding Frelick the extra base hits have started to come a bit more in this recent stretch with his average rising, but his OPS is still only .815 despite hitting .317. That's not completely empty, but I'd be worried how his line would look at the moment if he jumped straight to MLB. A promotion on the other hand to AAA does seem appropriate and a chance to see how he ends the year.

Draft a college CF, bump Chourio to Wisco, Peters to Biloxi and Frelick to Nashville.

If they don't find true CF help in a trade--and I think it's a strong possibility they won't--put it this way, I suspect someone in the organization has at least floated the idea I would guess. As you said it certainly doesn't fit their MO. I'd put the chances at less than 50-50 but not infinitesimal.
